I figured since many people ask which tires are best for them, I decided to see if I could offer an opinion tha lists/ranks some of the best tires in each category. Hopefully Luke can offer his input as well.

The most saught after (I think in this category)

Ultra High Performance Tires

Sometimes the best choice, because we all want Ultra High Performance tires, but we also want our tires to last longer then 1 year. Many Ultra High Performance Tires that aren't All-Season tend to wear too qucik...but thats the compromise we make between Wear/Performance.

So #1:

Continental ContiExtremeContact. Even though it is new, and just released, the reviews are coming in. However, since their have not been many reviews...its tough to consider the results completely accurate. However...It is a tire made by Continental and as Larry Bible mentions, its made in a Radially Section Mold.

Honorable Mentions:

Michelin Pilot A/S - They are known for the best, because they are. But their price can be twice as much as a tire that is almost just as good and little sacrifice. Its important to note though, while all the tire manufactueres try and make their own version of a Michelin as far as performance and ride goes.

Sumitomo HTR+ - For some reason, certain resellers offer a 40k mileage warranty on them. It look slike its made in a Radially Section Mold too, but its biggest benefit is the cost factor.

Bridgeston Potenza RE950 - Even though its in the High Performance All-season category, I think it would be considered against these other tires. Now the price is more closer to the Michelins then the other tires, but it also offers a 40 or 45k mile warranty. Do remember this tire is in the lower category because it doesn't quite compete with the Ultra High Performance Tire.

Dunlop SP Sport A2 - The biggest seller is it offers a 50k warranty. Its a great compromise for someone looking at a grand tourer with the slight performance minded edge. The price is nice too.

Bridgestone Turanza LS-H/V/Z & Z/H Revo - I know its a Grand Tourer tire, but its something to be considered. If you want pure GRand Toruing, This is the tire.


Ultra High Performance.
Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP. Sometimes we all wishes Firestone made this tire in more sizes. If this is available in your size, and your looking for a good replacement because you have a dedicated winter set, or don't require one. Decent wear for dedicated sumer tire.

the backup if SZ50s not in your size:
Prada Spec 2 - AVS ES100 - Bridgeston RE730 Gen 2.

All of these tires are great performers. However, many in this dedicated category would only be here because they can't step up to the dedicate MAXIMUM performance tire.

Maximum Performance Tires:
Hands down Bridgeston Potenza S-03 PP. If you want the best performance....your here. But many of the tires in this category are great, and price is the biggest factor between this, the Michelin Pilot, and the slightly less expesnive, and less extreme Dunlop SP 9000.

Luke....let me know your professional opinion, but hopefully this helps people in looking for tires. Choosing amongst these tires will probably leave you in the top tire choices.
