Snow Tires, Good or Bad

Well the snow season is basically over, some of us bought new snow tires and it would be nice to know what you all thought of your snow tires performance?

I switch from Blizzaks WS50 to the Dunlop Winter Sport, and there is no question in my mind that the Blizzaks is the very best snow and ice tire, the Dunlop is a good snow tire, good on ice and it’s a much better dry performance tire than the Blizzaks WS50.
Enjoy your drive, timreid

I road on the Winter Sport M2's this winter .... for a "V" speed rated winter tire they did very well ....I had Blizzaks on the wifes SUV and it was better in the snow than anything she had ever driven in the winter time ....

Winter Tires

My application may be different than most: Even in winter, I only see snow for the last miles on the trip to Tahoe in the 4matic. (California requires chains or 4WD vehicles with snows.) Daily driving sees no snow at all. So my requirements for a winter tire demand adequate performance in 90% dry conditions at sea level, often at highway speeds, plus good snow performance for those last miles in the snow at Tahoe.

I picked the Nokian WRs (205/60-15), which are their new "all season" M+S tire, but with snow capability, evidenced by the snowflake/mountain symbol on the sidewall. I found these tires to perform adequately in the snow, but the real surprise was how nicely they performed in the dry. I bought them by mail from George at Meadow Creek Tire in Denver: 1-800-222-7360. (Unfortunately, TireRack doesn't carry them...yet.)

Previously I used the Pirelli P210s, and, while they did fine in the snow, they were awful in the dry: noisy, with poor handling. (My wife couldn't stand them!) The drive up to Tahoe was miserable.

Now, come springtime, I've switched over to my "regular" tires for the 4matic (on stock wheels): the Dunlop Sport A2s in 215/60-15. These are fine tires, also M+S (in case I see a Spring snowflake or two), which I always purchase from TireRack.

Regards,
Bob

Winter Tires

I bought new Vredestein Wintrac's in November. They did great!
They are expensive but worth it for me.
I had them on my 500E (for sale).
I had them on stock 8 hole wheels (also for sale).

Bought Michelin Pilot Alpin's at the start of the winter. I was very happy with them. Here in Calgary, we see dry pavement for a lot of the winter, though last weekend we had 2 feet of snow on Saturday - it varies....

These tires are great for the mix we have - good in the snow, very good on the dry/wet pavement.
