Greetings everyone,

I just picked up a 1992 300Ce that has some pretty nasty looking chrome 5 stars on it.

I really like the look of the factory 8 hole wheels on the car. I was looking to buy some used, but am unsure about which ones will fit and work on the car.

I have heard mixed things about what wheels I can use.

Someone told me the 16 inch wheels of an S Class would work.

Another told me the car had larger brake calipers and needed special wheels fromt he factory.

I'm really looking to put on 16 inch wheels in either 16x7 or 16x7.5

So what I really need is information on which wheels from which models will fit on the car without rubbing or sticking out. I am really just looking to have the car look clean.

I would of course love some good ol AMG Monoblocks or 5 stars, but thats not in my budget at the moment, but I just cant stand the wheels that are currently on the car. If they were factory wheels I would be fine, but since they are pretty nasty looking wheels (At least to me), I was hoping to pick up some used factory 8 hole wheels in 16 inch for the car.

So will the wheels from an S class in 8 hole work, or what about the 16x8's from a 94 sl600, are those too wide or the wrong offset?

In anycase, please let me know what years and models I can use wheels from that are the 8 hole style. If I have to get aftermarket ones, then I will, but I would assume factory 16x7 or 16x7.5 would work fine.

Thanks

Hi Everyone, Sorry to post again, but I really need some help in figuring out what wheels will work on the car.

I really prefer the look of the Factory 8 hole wheels, and would love to put these on my car. a 1992 300CE.

I know of course the AMG Monoblocks look great, and I salivate at the thought of putting those on my car, but I can't afford the wheels now that I just shelled out the dough for the car, but in a few months I should be able to pick up some nice AMG Wheels.

but for now, I would love to get some factory 8 holes in 16" size to work on the car. Tires or not.

If there are any Tire/Wheel Guru's out there who can assist me in this I would greatly appreciate it.

My Driving Style:
I don't drive agressively or go racing around town. I generally just cruise at the speed limit or at the flow of traffic. I will every now and again open the car up just for the adrenaline rush, but I usually revert back to my normal driving style after I have gotten the adrenaline going.

So I'm not looking for super high performance tires/wheels, or the hi-performance look at this time.

all I really need to know is which wheels in 16" from which benz models will work on my car, and will have an offset that works right.

I am not into rolling the fenders, or slapping on the widest wheels and tires I can on a car. But i would like to find a good medium, with factory 16" 8 hole wheels and decent tires, either made by michelin, or another reputable brand.

My biggest tire concern is milelage on the tires. I have Michelin LTX's on my Jeep and the tires have lasted for 55K Miles, and still have a few thousand more miles on them.

So I'm really looking to find out about wheels/tire sizes for my car, but in 16" only. I really can't see using anything smaller. And I will not go over 17" wheels, because I think 18's on that car just look too big.
t in anycase, I know there are many of you out there who have the right answer for me, so please try.

Also I noticed there is a guy from tirerack.com who posts here named Luke.

Luke you seem very helpful and knowledgable about the cars and tires/wheels for the cars.

what wheels and tires would you recommend for my car? I prefer factory look to aftermarket wheels on the car, and money is a major deciding factor here. but I would be interested in knowing if the ATP 8's in 16x7.5 with the right offset for my car, and what tire size will work. If it comes out to be justa bit more than I was expecting then its ok. I'll start saving up the money instantly.

I do know I have to get two tires for the car, but I dont want to get tires unless I have the right wheels. as soon as the car is delievered (Hopefully by friday) i will post up some pics of the existing wheels with the existing tire size and a pic of the car just so you can see what I mean when I say the wheels that are on it are nasty....

Thanks for all your help in advance,

Ashman

Tire Rack has some ATP 8 hole 16" MB replicas that Luke says are high quality and fit well - I am probably going the same route you are. I too would like the AMGs, but the 8 hole looks very good as well. The general consensu seems to be 205/55 - 16 michelin tires on the 16" rim. Energy MXV4 Plus for mileage, Pilot Sports, GTs, or Pilot all season XGTV4 for handling. I have found the XGT V4 to be a pretty long lived tire with great handling in wet or dry. Click the Tire rack banner above. You can look up the tires and ATP wheels and se them on your car before you buy, and read owners comments on each tire you are considering. Pretty cool. Hope this helps.

JCE,

Thanks for the input. I have been to tire rack, and have seent he wheels and such.

The only reason why I ask about other model 8 holes working, is I have found some used with 90% tread off an s Class for like $650

On the recycler. It may have been more, but for the money, if they will work, I cant realy go wrong.

But if I do have to get the replica atp 8's, then I will, but I'd rather have OE Factory wheels which at a price of 500-700 with tires for used or slightly used. I would definately be buying them if I knew they fit.

I wonder if anyone has made a table with the different Rim sizes/offsets on all mb models, and then a coparison on which wheels/tires fit.

If there was a table like that, I'm sure most people's questions would be answered.

The strange thing is the different opinions I have heard from friends/ local tire shops.

One friend said the 90's S Class 8 holes will work.

A tire store that I went to who put 18" AMG Wheels on my dad's SL600 said the 92 Ce needed special wheels or something. and I thought that cant be because the car should share most of its mechanical components with the regular E Class.

Even if the calipers are bigger, it shouldn't be a problem considering the factory used 15X6.5 standard on that car I believe.. though dont take my word on that. hehe

I have seen ce's with the 8 hole wheels, but am unsure if they were 15's or 16's, but they did look good.

My car has 16x7 or 16x7.5 5 star chrome wheels that to me are the ugliest 5 star mercedes wheels I have seen. the center caps have huge octagonal lug with an mb star in the center, and the spokes curve in at the edges.

the tires on it are 205/55/16's right now. The tires themselves seem small on those wheels, and it appears that the rim edge is protruding past the tires so it looks just plain awkward.

I was thinking that the 215/55/16's or 225/55/16 would work much better.

I would like to do a wider footprint, without increasing rolling diameter from factory size unless I have to. And without rolling the fenders. hehe

Thanks,
Ashman
