Rim size and interchangeability question

Are the bundt rims on a 82 300sd the same size as the wheels on a w123 240D? Nice set at the pick and pull pondering getting them for my 1981.

actually, no.
they are not the same size as what came on a 240. but they are a perfect fit, which is what you likely wanted to know.
if you have the aluminum hubbies that came stock on the car, you will have a broken white line painted around the raised center section of your rim. that means you have 5 or 5.5" wide rims. (they are rare to still be on the car though, and many 240 drivers want them back!) if you still have the hubcaps with the plastic nubs on them, and no longer want them, let me know!

If they are 6.5" et30, you will want to be aware that tires can contact the outer tie rod boots with some tire widths. Personal experience.

if from a 300sd I believe the rims are 6 x 14 same as a 123. If from a v8 car they would more likely be 6.5 x14 and three or four pounds heavier which will make the car ride more roughly.

the 240 aluminum 5.5 x14" rims only weigh about 11# and give a sweet ride and pin sharp steering and take the wheel covers with the rubber inserts on the clips where they touch the rim.

I have three sets of these aluminum 240D wheels. The 300D that I just bought for my daughter has a set on it. I love'em!

I have two kinds. Some with a 126 part number, the others came from a W116 and have a 108 part number, as I recall. Width and offset are the same, and they both touch the tie rod boots with 215 tires. One could probably squeak by with 205 tires.

In my infinite wisdom, I went 215, because I could more closely match proper overall tire diameter. My infinite wisdom is pretty stupid at times.

ahh. oversized tires are touching the tie rod... gotcha. yeah, a 195-205 tire fits perfectly, adding 10mm to the width (which also increases the diameter) is not a good thing...
