I like to change the stock 16" wheels/tires on my C320 with 17" wheels/tires. Need comments and suggestions on:
1. AMG Model 170 5-spokes 2. Best tires for quiteness and handling 3. Ride quality compares to stock 16" setup |

I think the 17" AMG 5 spokes owuld look good, or the monoblocks would also look nice of course.
As far as ride quality, it shouldn't be too much different from my experience. My dad has a 94 sl 600 and he replaced the 16" wheels with 18" AMG 5 spokes, and the car rides better than before. Not sure as to why, but thats what I found when I drove it before and after. The car seemed more in tune with the road. I plan on upgrading my car to 17" wheels as well, and for me the ride quality difference would be negligable. I prefer the aggressiveness, and style and size of the 17" wheels compared to smaller ones. The ride quality issues are; better steering response and handling with a slightly stiffer ride. If you would like to experience what your caar would feel like go test drive a sport package model of your car or maybe a 430.
Tire recommendations: Pilot Sports or S-02 Pole Positions are the best tires money can buy and the Dunlop 9000's are also a good choice as a more value priced option. I love how those new AMG 203 5-spokes look. But in my honest opinion, I would go with a staggered setup like the AMG C32 package would have.
For tires: 225/45/17 up front, 245/40/17 in the back. I honestly love the Bridgestone Potenza RE730. Nicely priced ($131 for the 225s, $141 for the 245s,) good wear, great wet traction as well as dry. Its available in both sizes. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/bridgestone/bs_re730.jsp Just read the feedback on these tires. ------------------ Chirag (Charlie) Patel - 99 Mercedes-Benz ML 430 V8 w/custom TVs, HI-Fi VCP, Tuner, played throughout BOSE speaker system - 93 190E 2.6 (4-sale) w/ an amp, equalizer, and CD-changer, integrated w/ stock stereo and integrated cellular phone speaker system, 400E brake upgrade, 16" 8-hole replica wheels, KYB, and lowest pad height, K&N - Fianlly, waiting list on the new 2001 C32 AMG. - 4 Sale, 4 16x7 7-Spoke SLK Wheels and 2 16x7 and 2 16x8 7-Spoke SLK staggered setup wheels (look like the Evo II, except 7-spokes) - 4 Sale, OEM 15" wheels from 93 190E. 4 have 205/55/15 and 1 has rarely used 185/65/15 full size spare. |
