Will '80 450 SEL W116 bundt cake wheels fit W123 and W126 cars?
Will OEM Mercedes Wheels off of a 1980 450 SEL W116 fit the W123 and W126 series? These Wheels are 6 1/2Jx14H2, ET 30, Part number 1264002102. Bolt pattern is 5 x 120mm. Thanks for any input.

They should fit fine on a W126, BUT
if they are Mercedes wheels, the bolt circle must be 112mm, not 120mm. The only potential problem is that on W123 cars, the inner flange of the rim and any tire wider than 205mm gets awfully close to the tie rod end in the front. Some people (like me) in the past have used thin spacers (expensive, if they're up to spec., hubcentric and all that rot ) and others have put washers under the arm which connects to the tie rod to the steering knuckle to move it inward a little , but that requires a reallignment and throws the Ackermann effect geometry a little bit out of whack.
An '80 450 SEL IS a W126, isn't it? |

Actually, the '80 450 SEL is a W116 vehicle, the W126 series started in 1981. Thanks for your input. So does that mean that they won't fit?

I shouldn't try to answer M-B questions while grading essay tests late at night
I forgot that there was an overlap between the 116 and 126 in 1980, and I'm afraid that it is also possible that there will be a clearance problem with a W126 front suspension similar to that of the W123, because the W126 long wheelbase and SL cars that I have seen (not a huge number) came with 6 1/2" rims which were ET25 or thereabouts, not 30.
You need to bolt one on the front end and look at how close it gets to the tie rod end to be sure, and allow room for wheel weights. Also, don't forget that M-B requires a frustrating variety of bolt lengths and bolt head contours to work with their different wheel designs. |

Thanks, Fimum for your input. I think the bolt pattern was probably misrepresented and probably 112mm. However the 6.5" and the offset may be a problem so I'll wait for the right wheel.

I can't because they are an Ebay auction item, so I have to make a long distance judgement. Thanks.
