Tire mileage warranty for second car owner.

Dear friends:

My friend (in San Jose) bought his car from an old gentleman who had the car's 4 tires changed with 4 new Michelin Rainforce (60,000 miles warranty) when the car's mileage was 80,000 miles. Now it's about 98,000 miles and one front tire was blown up (on the sidewall). I wonder whether the tire shop will honor the warranty even though my friend is not the original tire buyer.

The tire shop (Discount Tires Co. - tires.com) that originally changed the tires is located in San Diego, but my friend wants to go to a similar tire shop (also belonging to Discount Tires Co.) in San Jose.

Will they honor the warranty?

Thanks for your information.

Best regards,

Eric

couldn't hurt to try .. i know a tire shop out here on the east coast 'town fair' will honor warranties from their other locations. it would help to have the original paperwork.

at the very least your friend may be able to get a credit against a replacement.

I had a similar situation with Discount Tires on a car I bought. I decided the best thing to do was to go into Discount with the warranty and not mention to them that I was not the person who was named on the warranty.
Everything went fine, they replaced the tire, but when they came back into the waiting room they yelled out the name of the previous owner. No one replied so he yelled again. Stupid me, I had forgotten I was that person! I looked around the waiting room and I was the only one there. I suddenly realized who I should have been and stood up and took my keys from the guy. He must have thought I was a total idiot.

Pay with cash too

for any additional charges that may come up. It may be a limited warranty so you will only get credit for the balance of the mileage left on the tire or warranty.
I did the same thing as Kerry on a battery and then pulled the checkbook out to pay the balance on the bill. As soon as I opened it I realized my folly and quietly folded it back up while going for the money clip.
Duh...
