Tire mileage warranty for second car owner.
Dear friends:
My friend (in San Jose) bought his car from an old gentleman who had the car's 4 tires changed with 4 new Michelin Rainforce (60,000 miles warranty) when the car's mileage was 80,000 miles. Now it's about 98,000 miles and one front tire was blown up (on the sidewall). I wonder whether the tire shop will honor the warranty even though my friend is not the original tire buyer. The tire shop (Discount Tires Co. - tires.com) that originally changed the tires is located in San Diego, but my friend wants to go to a similar tire shop (also belonging to Discount Tires Co.) in San Jose. Will they honor the warranty? Thanks for your information. Best regards, Eric |
Mileage coverage and road hazzard coverage are different beasts. If you don't have a receipt that says you're covered for road hazzards, you're paying for a new tire.
If you have a receipt and don't say anything they should take care of it. If you have a receipt it probably spells out the transfer terms. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL 83 300SD ... $950, see cars forum |
Dear sixto:
Here's some information from the receipt: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Limited Warranty Lifetime Workmanship/Materials Lifetime Prorated Road Hazard 60,000 Mileage Warranty Car Mileage 80,000 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Will they replaced the blown tire for free based on this information? Thanks. Best regards, Eric |
Why don't you call Discount Tires and ask them?

I purchased my Mercedes used and the previous owner had tires from Discount Tire. Discount Tire has transfered the warranty over to me without cost.
From the description you have a pro-rated road hazard warranty which means that you are partially covered based on the tire tread depth (tire wear). |
