Will ~92 SL rims fit my 82 SD
Since I'm kind of a newbie........OK newbie. I am chasing down a set of 15" rims from a ~92 SL.
From what i have read I think they will fit. I would like to know for sure? The seller wants $150 for the set and they are in good shape. Stephen

They might, if they're 16x8 and ET22. I don't think R129 SL's came with 15" wheels, although some look identical to the 15" W124 wheels.

The guy is not sure what model they came off of. He works at a tire shop. He says their 15X7 and ws supposed to e-mail me pics.
The price seems right so I think I will drive the 30 min to look at them. I should be able to tell then. Thanks, Stephen

He needs to look at the back of the wheel for the letters "ET". That will tell you the offset. Your SD has somewhere around 25mm offset.

The 90-up SLs (R129) came with 16x8 wheels as mentioned. I forget the ET but I posted it in the parts forum long ago when I had such a wheel for sale. I still have it but no one wants the 90-91 style wheel. It fits the front but not the rear of a 126 sedan. You can probably make it work with spacers.
If it's a 15x7 wheel it's probably off a 124. I think those wheels fit a 126 without spacers despite the deeper offset. Might look a little funny but shouldn't be a problem. They could also be copy wheels in the proper offset. Some folks around the corner from me have a 420SEL with lookalike 15-hole wheels. They're available from tirerack.com. I don't remember the brand. Don't forget to get the proper bolts for replacement wheels or check that there's about as much exposed thread with your existing bolts. Too much exposed thread might interfere with the innards of the hub or the park brake mechanism. Not enough exposed threads could be a safety issue. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |
