Original Chrome Wheels - 124?
I recently picked up a set of factory original chrome wheels through ebay (#2459807826), but have since learned that the offset isn't quite right for my particular car. (I have a 1988 126 style... I believe these are for a 124 style, or at least these are the first three numbers of a part number on the inside of each wheel.) They're in nice shape overall and will surely be just right for someone's daily driver. Let me know if you're interested (bbell75136@aol.com).

Could you post the full MB part number as well as the wheel size and offset?

The following appears within each of the rims:
1244010802 E148 (might be ET48?) 6,5Jx15H2 The above and the fact that they don't work on a 1988 300 SEL is all I know for sure. Perhaps someone with the knowledge can equate the above to an offset measurement? Last edited by rbellamy1; 03-15-2004 at 05:16 PM. |

I'd like to add a slight clarification to your post:
While the wheels you bought are obviously original Mercedes wheels, they were not originally chrome. To be precise, Mercedes cars have never come from the factory chromed. They don't sell chrome wheels in any country in the world. Chrome is always a dealer add-on, and they can't be warrantied. Chrome not only can flake off, but weakens the wheels in the chroming process. I think it's called anealing. Last, the U.S. is probably one of the only countries in the world where people like chrome wheels. You will rarely see them in Europe or Japan, unless you are a pimp or a member of the mafia.

Actually....there was one car (that I am aware of) that came from the factory with chrome wheels: The very first ML 55 (W163) came with pearl-colored paint and factory chrome wheels. It was auctioned off at the Mercedes-Benz "Drive for Excellence" event in the fall of 1999. Proceeds went to charity. Hope this helps. |
