What's it worth?

Howdy all,

I'm looking at selling my current MB and moving up to something newer. Now, I know how much I value the car, but I'm not certain what a reasonable price to sell it for is. If anyone has had experience selling or buying a similar car, i'd be curious to know what price you paid/received.

The car is a 1978 280E. It has 135000 miles on it, the engine is still in great shape, uses no oil, doesn't leak. The dash is cracked some (as is so common), but otherwise, the interior is in good shape, particularly the seat upholstery. Inside the glove box is a nice Sony ES head unit, and the speakers have all been upgraded to pretty nice Infinities. The tires are nearly brand new, and the car has not been exposed to salted roads or snow, so no rust. Oh, and the automatic climate control still works fine, AC blows nice and cold.

Now for the bad news. The cruise control doesn't work, and the vacuum locks only work for maybe 20 minutes after the car is turned off. The worst part of the car is the paint. The roof looks bad, and the very top of the hood, right under the windshield, is losing its paint (PO did a bad repaint in some parts), most of the actual body of the car still looks good, though.

Sorry to be so long-winded, but I thought I should give a full, honest appraisal of the car. The online estimators I've used have given me quite a range, so I'm curious what you all think it's worth. Oh, and offers are certainly welcome ;-) Thanks for any responses!

I was looking for one of these old 280's for a while,I had one 10 years ago, great car.Not really very easy to sell as a sedan, more value on a 280CE in
perfect shape(I followed an auction on ebay,1 month ago for a 280CE that ended for 2400$,nice car),so,for your car I dont know,do you have any pictures?,location?,what you feel comfortable selling it for?

The location is here with me in Eugene, Oregon. I'm not at all sure what I feel comfortable selling it for, hopefully some other people will respond so I can have a consensus ballpark figure for what she's worth. I'll try and take pictures today or tomorrow and put them up, maybe that will help with the appraisal. Hope some more people respond while I get the photos taken... Thanks

www.autotrader.com helped me sell an Alfa that
was a hard car to sell. It was free without picture
and ran untill the car sold.

With poor paint I would say $1500-$2500. Most likely
you will need to sell local. It is not worth shipping a
low value car.
