F/S 1991 350SDL, needs engine

My brother has a 1991 350SDL he picked up from a friend. The car is immaculate show room condition, except it needs the engine overhauled. I was told the oil pump drive rod (?) broke and one or more bearings are spun. The oil pan was removed and at least the bearings and the oil pump were inspected. The engine will start but there is no oil pressure. Car is in St. George Utah. I was told the outside color is offwhite. Mileage = 155,000.

So here is your chance to rebuild the engine with the proper rods and have a great road car.

Add'll information: I haven't seen the car. My brother is in the used car business in SO CA and lives in lower Utah. He comes to SO CA about 3 times a month. He is not interested in hauling this car to the auctions in SO CA. I talked with him at length about getting this car to an enthusiast through this board.

I can get you pictures, I have the Utah title in front of me. I have the VIN number. My brother has access to nationwide transportation. This has been a Salt Lake City car and is very clean.

I don't want to be involved in the transaction, you can deal directly with him. If you've got the time and space this would make a great car once the engine is repaired (replaced).

I think you ought to see the pictures of the car, but in discussions with him, we're thinking around $4,000. That should get you an almost showroom car (except the engine). I think the service records may be available but that isn't a promise from me, I don't want to lead you down that path of disappointment. I do however think the stamped maintenance book is still in the car.

Keep in mind this is his personal side project and this isn't a commercial listing. He has good access to nationwide vehicle delivery.

I don't know how much of a premium the 350's bring... but I doubt it will even bring half of that at auction. Any pictures of this car? Service records would be a plus

I agree, 4K for a 166K mile 350SDL with a blown, partially disassembled engine is about 3.5K more than I'd be willing to pay.

Exclamation Way too much

I would think around $1500 to $2000 at the most.

I may be wrong here but don't replacement engines for those cars sell for around $12,000?

The car is not worth $4,000 in its present condition with a blown motor. At auction it might bring $1,500 or so.

Easy enough to tell if you have the title. 350SD VIN begins with WDBCB34. SDL VIN begins with WDBCB35.

According to the title its a 350SD. I've never seen a 350SD only a 350SDL. After seeing the owner manual front cover that said "350SD or 350SDL" I did a search here and found that a 350SD does exist. Apparently only about 2,000 of them were imported ???? Anyone know the difference between a 350SD and a 350SDL?

Easy please, remember I haven't seen the car.
