I now have four cars, three of them Mercedes, and need to sell one of them unfortunately. I got this 450SEL last November and put a lot of time and money into the restoration -- which is almost complete. The car is in excellent overall mech condition, NO rust areas whatsoever, has been fully repainted, new front end bushings, cross yoke bushings, motor mounts, battery, brake master cyl and vac line to the brake vac reservoir, new dash cap, real walnut veneer put on the dash, various vinyl repairs and replacments, new radial tires, new seat adjustment arms for height, new multifunction unit for cruise, lights and turn signals, washer system for windshield, new driver's door strap "hold open" unit, new right front fender,
and many other smaller items too numerous to mention. Previous owners (2)
performed many mech repairs and replacements also. Brakes, and engine related units are all in good shape. A/C and heating units are in good condition and A/C is charged; some problems with elec/vac controls for the A/C which need to be resolved. Interior is in good restored condtion, could use driver's seat reuph (velour; original covering ... was redone once, but has deteriorated on the driver's seat. Right front seat is good and rear is excellent.)

Like all almost 30 year old cars, it has some problems left, but they are mostly interior cosmetic ones, or relatively minor ones like the A/c controls. Basically this car is in extremely good basic condition. I am pricing it at $6500 OBO and feel it is worth it, with the mech upgrades that have been performed.

How old is the spare tire?
If it's really old but looks good then I might consider paying 3 times over market, but I guess that's just the management consultant in me.

Actually the spare is a very good tire, and so is the car.... It is in great mechanical shape, with most major subsystems refurbished or replaced.
The market value ranges from $4k to around $12K depending on condition, so I don't feel my asking price for this particular car is out of line.... I notice that members of the forum seem to look for extreme bargains, which are really in pretty poor condition overall .... I don't think that is a bargain ..

Actually, the car has sold already, for an amount near my asking price and will go to a new lucky owner shortly ......
