Is it driveable? Would it make it 1000+miles return trip? Since these engines don't have cam bearings, it needs a rebuilt head. Any rust on it? Thanks, RT

No it doesn't need head rebuilt it needs bearings that are on the shaft that runs through engine. They would be called cam bearings in a conventional engine.Don't know the technical name for that shaft in this engine.I bought new ones and ordered them as cam bearings anf the right ones came in.It is not running right now if the oil pump was reinstalled and pan buttoned up it would probably go any where it would have low oil pressure

Intermediate shaft bearings, they are installed kinda like cam bearings in an old V8, but this motor has an overhead cam, so.

They do wear and play havoc with oil pressure, I've driven tens of thousands of miles with 10psi or less at idle and 30 on the road. YMMV
Sad part is people forget to replace them on a rebuild a lot of times.

Dang... nice looking Jetta! I wish it were running; I'd have to think long and hard about passing THAT up! I'd eBay it if no one here is smart enough to jump on it. VW diesels sell VERY well there.

Same color as my last A2 TD was, with the same saggy rear.

That was a good old car..

Have friends in Trussville

I have several friends that live in Trussville. I went to college in Birmingham. My project list, and my garage, is full right now. I would love to have the Jetta but would lose my place to sleep if I bought it
