1981 240 north NJ- new tranny but broken timing chain
I am selling a 1981 240D that has been sitting for a year because the timing chain broke (at low speed). There was a lot of documented work done on the car within months before the timing chain broke. It is in Wayne, NJ (right off of exit 153 on the Garden State Parkway. I have the title so you could probably fix the engine (maybe just a new timing chain but I dont know if anything else is broken in there).
Here is the work that was done (receipts that will come with the title). -Air filter mounts (three replaced in 3/04) -Alternator and belt (replaced with rebuilt in 3/04) -Muffler (from front to back cost 300$ in 5/04) -Rebuilt Transmission, automatic (this is still shiny looking with only a few thousand miles on it!! receipt from Allstar Transmission Specialists in Haledon, NJ charged 1771.00$ warranty was for 12 months but that was on 5/12/04 right before the timing chain broke) - Tie Rod assembly (12/03) - Computerized Alignment (12/03) - Steering Shock (12/03) - a bunch of new light bulbs and a new battery were installed too description - this is a 1981 blue 240 with 60k showing on the odometer (who knows) and minor rust (it has been sitting for a year though). no sunroof, no power windows which means less to fix. the interior is pretty clean. a few cracks in the dash but overall it is pretty nice (better than most on ebay). one hubcap missing. automatic transmission. timing chain broke at 30 mph. no dents on any exterior panel, but front bumper is a little loose. all glass is fine. I only saw this car once, when I went to purchase it a month and a half ago. I have tried to describe it as best as possible. I was planning on taking on the "project" of opening up the engine and seeing if I could fix it. I think I am in way over my head though and dont have the time to really enjoy the work and learning that is involved in such a project. Its still worth some money as a parts car too. I am not in north NJ and the car must be towed from its location soon (one or two weeks max). asking 700$ email me - dgreenhouse2003 at yahoo dot com |

any offers would be considered.
For example, I would give you this parts car if you would transplant the new muffler from it onto my daily driver 240 (you need to have experience with this so that you can guarantee the work will be good). thanks for looking. dan Last edited by dgreenhouse; 08-08-2005 at 10:13 AM. |
