'94 SL500 soft top problem

I have had an occasional problem with the soft top switch indicating a fault(lighting up and accompanied by a loud warning dinging sound). Manual says it's associated with the top not being fully locked. Usually just pushing the switch upward to the locked position was enough to fix the problem. Sometimes it took a few pushes. Problem has continued to progress from occassional to continuous dinging. Top is fully engaged, it is locked by the system is perceiving a fault, a sensor somewhere is telling the car the top is not fully locked. Anyone have any idea where these sensors are, which one might need replacing. Common problem, rare problem? Manual says to use manual locking tool to secure all locking points as a remedy if using the switch fails, tried that does not work. The dinging is driving me nuts! Need help!

push down at windshield on top

I have the same problum, if I stand on door sill and put my two hands on the top of the top above the visor, and put all my weight on the top, I will hear the click of the top engaging into the mechanism, then everything is fine. You might have to try both sides to see which one is hanging up. good luck.

you dont want to disable dinger

the dinger is letting you know that the top is not fully engaged, and even though it may look fully engaged, the "dinger" is probably right.
