FS: 1984 300D (Maine)

I'm selling my Mercedes 300D because my wife is pregnant and we could definately use the money more than i need the car.

Good: starts, runs and drives well, shifts smooth with no flair(though the 2-3 shift seems a little early), ACC works, vacuum locks work great, all power windows work, all lights work. In the last year or so it's gotten new tires, battery and windshield. Sunroof works perfictly as well

Bad: A/C is non-operational, cruse control is dead, power antenna does not work, it leaks a little oil, seems to come from the back of the valve cover gasket. leaks tranny fluid from the seal at the neutral safety switch.

I love driving it and I'd love to keep it... But, with a baby on the way the money could definately be used elcewhere.

First batch o' picts:

Oh and the stereo is *not* included.

Price... $1850 OBO

I just wanted to add that if somone has a decent, inspectable, 'winter beater' they'd like to do a trade with let me know. I do need at least $1,200 (perforably more) out of the deal. So, if you have another car you're looking to get rid of that runs ok, and will pass Maine state inspection that is worth less than $900 maybe we can make a deal!

PS: I do prefer european cars

Do you know what is wrong with the a/c?
Any rust? Any pull or shake at high speeds?

No clue what is wrong with the A/C, it was non operational when I bought it.

There are a few little spots of rust, one under the driver side tail light, one or two on the edge of the rear door... But the edges of the fenders and jack points are all solid

does not pull or shake at speed, it is perfict on the highway, smooth and soild.

I'd also like to add a bit to the description,

the clock does not work, as well the car's milage is just about to hit 304K mi and will continue to slowly go up as I drive it 60-120 miles a week.

More to add, since I've had a few questions

1) Maine does not issue titles for cars over 15 years old. I will supply a bill of sale and a copy of my registration. That is all you should need, but be sure to check with your local DMV first and let me know what is needed and I'll make sure you have everything you need from me.

2) Yes, I believe the car would make a long drive, but I can't guarantee it will because of all the unknowns that go along with long trips. A Prime example is a trip I made to Virginia a few years back. I took my Passat wagon, it had only 54K mi on it and was in tip-top shape. it made the drip down ok, but on the way back to Maine both front wheel bearings failed in New Jersey at 2 in the morning...

3) If you are planning on buying the car and driving it home, you must get insurance and a temporary tag for the car or what ever. I will not loan you my plates.

4) I don't take personal checks, I've been burned in the past and I don't want that to happen again! so bring cash.

5) Cruse control, I don't know the exactly why it does not work, but I checked out what I could and found the actuator to be in good shape, the switch works, everything is getting power when it should, etc. It only accelerates occasionally, so it's either the controller(replaced 4 yrs ago) or the speed sensor.

6) Power antenna, the mast is frozen and the clutch is broken. however the motor works great and the belt looks new. So if you have/find one with a bad motor but otherwise fine yer good to go

any other questions let me know, and I'll answer them ASAP.

Unfortunately I have to add another fault with the car..

Last night when I hopped in to make a quick trip to the store I felt one of the springs under the seat break. Now when you sit in the seat it leans a little bit towards the door.

I'm going to drop the price $50 to $1,850 because of that. (I'm sure a set of pool noodles is less than $50 )

As a side note, because of a bird strike distrying the windshield on the Element, I've been driving the Benz a lot more often. In a way I'm kinda glad is has not sold yet, I *love* driving it! But I still need money for baby stuff and a set of snow tires for the Element so I have to sell it...

What would you really pay for this car if you were buying it?

That may help people get an idea of how much to buy this particular car for.
It does appear very nice looking at the exterior.

Honestly? I'd pay 1,700 maybe 1,800, that is if I had the cash (if I did, I would NOT be selling it!). But really if someone were to come up here with some cashola ready to buy and could offer me a few hundred less than I'm asking, there is a very very good chance I'd take it. Like I said, part of the money I get is going to snowtires and winter is a comin' so I'll need those soon!

I'd like to say yes, but there is no way I could do that. Why not check out some auto shippers, I'm sure it won't cost all too much to ship to NJ and it's generally cheeper to ship stuff out of Maine than in.
