FS: '72 Triumph TR6
I've got a TR6 as my daily driver right now, but am looking to get a different car just for a change of pace. TR6s are amazingly fun and the best head turners you'll find anywhere, but just not practical if that's all you've got. Some of you should consider this as a second or third car... you can't beat it on sunny days!
Emerald green exterior, Valencia Blue engine bay. I have all the materials to finish painting the exterior, I just never got the time to do the work. All paint is the highest quality PPG. 4000 miles on rebuilt 2.5L straight six, downdraft Weber carbs, Pacesetter/Monza exhaust system and header, HARDTOP, completely new front electrical harness (from the seats forward: dash & engine bay), all electrical works without flaw. Rear tube shock conversion; KYB gas shocks. New Pioneer head unit mp3 player. 2 MB Quartz 100W speakers up front and 2 100W Pioneer 6x9s behind each seat. Fantastic daily driver, though I recommend having another car for luggage space and highway cruising. Numerous other small new parts... to many to list. $10,500 OBO. Email me at webbsledge[at]msn.com for more pics, info, or a phone number. I'd be glad to talk to you about the car or arrange a time to come see it. I've attached a few small pictures of it below. How would you grade that car? duPont places the car at $9780 @ 10/10
The car is not concourse so -1 Paint altough good (not complete) -? Non OEM additions in audio are -1/2 So grading is going to be a 7.5 or $7335

As someone said, the car is located in right outside of Charlottesville, in Virginia. It's in good shape, mechanically and cosmetically, but it certainly isn't concours. A perfect TR6 will get restored for over $30,000, and as soon as it rolls out of the shop it's worth about $16,000. I worked for a while at a shop which restored TRs of all types as well as MGs, and this was the case with every one of them. My car is a great daily driver, but it does have some flaws. It does leak some oil, which is normal for all MGs and TRs. It's not that anything is wrong, it's just that the front and rear seals on the engine were poorly designed. If you get on a British Car Forum, they will tell you the same. You can only hope to cut back the oil flow, not stop it completely. The interior is in good shape minus a kind of chewed spot on the center consol (there when I bought it). It does not burn any oil as long as you run the Triumph recommended 20W-50 (10W-30 will slip past the valve guides at high revs) and it shifts and drives smoothly. As for the audio, upgraded audio should be a big plus unless you're looking for a factory system, which are very rare and gave terrible sound quality. It is very structurally sound, with no rust on the frame at all. There is a small rust spot on the very lower rear valance. I was planning to cut this out when the painting was done and weld in a new piece of metal, which could be done at home in your garage with a MIG, if you so desired. If you have any other questions, let me know. I know I like an honest seller when I talk to people about their cars, and I like to be one. |

As a re: to the value, my TR was appraised by a Triumph shop in my town at $8000, and that was before I dumped $4000 more into it with all the other engine, electrical, and other miscellaneous work.

loudpipe: you are exactly right about TR's. I had a 69TR6 and yes they all leak oil, the electrics can be tropublesome, and yes body parts may not all fit perfectly. But whereelse can you get a car that looks great, drives great and can be worked on with easily since almost everything goes together with a bolt, nut or screw. I rebuilt the front suspension on mine with simple tools which I could never do on my MB's
I sold mine for $5000(bought it 8 years earlier for $4500)and it was not quite as 1/2 in appearance or condition as what yours looks like so you may be a little high but certainly in the ballpark.

I don't disagree. My comment is really in the form of a question as I try and learn how this duPont grading works. All of us have seen cats that are worth x dollars fetch xx dollars because someone really wanted it (buying with your heart). Those buys affect the entire market when someone is averaging sales over a period of months. My understanding duPont throws these high's out unless that particular model is trending.
You car looks great Wish I had it! I have already brought home 3 drop heads this fall and I better not push my luck

What I use as a gauge of current market value for anything is E-Bay. Thousands of hits worldwide on your item by interested viewers & buyers over several days will usually bring out top dollar for most anything.
I figure E-bay is the great level playing field. Triumph TR6s no exception. There are always regional exceptions; for example VW Beetles bring a lot of $$$ locally here in Springfield ,MO. While in other parts of the country not so much$$..... Laws of local supply & demand. |
