123 1984 Euro 300TD

Hello. I’m selling my 1984 Mercedes 300td. This is what they call a gray market car. It is imported from overseas. This is the best 123 car I’ve driven, and I’ve had a 81 300d an 84 300d and a 240d and also a 126 82 300sd. The car is all in kilometers and it has 290,000 km which is 181,000 miles. The seats are not leather, but cloth. There is no sunroof, the windows are not power. I find all those things to be a plus. No sunroof leaking and windows that get stuck. My favorite thing is the climate control is two-zone manual, no auto vacuum switches that can go bad. The other perks are that there is no US emissions control, (EGR or oil separator on the air intake) which makes the car have great pickup. The car has not been in any accidents. My wife did hit a fire hydrant with the driver side rear bumper but I pulled the bumper out and it’s fine. I drive the car everyday to the Bronx to go to work and park it in a parking lot so there is a few dings but if you look at the pictures the car finish is great for being 21 years old. Now saying that the car is 21 years old, here are the things that are wrong with the car. There is an oil leak from the oil filter housing gasket. The blower motor fuse goes every few weeks, I just change it and it works fine in every speed. When you first start the heat you get a smell of antifreeze it goes away in a few minutes. There is no leak. I don’t lose any antifreeze and there is no drip inside and out. I looked in the heater core and did not see anything wet or leaking. The hood hinges are both bad. So it puts the hood up around 1/3 of an inch on one side. ( I use a stick to hold the hood up), It’s been that way since I got it. The Rear door button/sometimes when you push it it won’t open the door and you have to go inside and open it. I replace the antenna with an aftermarket manual antenna. The rear doors are missing the ashtrays. The driver side seat has a wear mark on the left side of the seat. ( I would say that the drivers seat is just worn) Oh the clock gets stuck sometimes. It will work for a few weeks and then just lose time, I reset it and it works again the stops. The odometer works like a charm, the only problem is that its in Kilometer. The oil pressure and fuel and temp gauges all work fine. Interior and exterior light all work as they should. No flare in gears, shifts fine. Little hard, but all my diesels shifted hard.

The work I have done to it. I just adjusted the valves last week for the winter. I put a new valve cover gasket. I did the whole AC system this summer, Compressor, dryer, expansion valve, and all gaskets, R134a, I replace two leaky injectors. I also just did the glow plugs and relay. Put a new water pump and hose. Battery is a year old. Did all the brakes and rotors over the summer. Tire’s have 70% they are 7 months old, but I drive the car 120 miles a day back and forth to work. Motor mounts, were replaced over the summer. The transmission mount also. All belts were replaced. Fuel filters were done about 10,000 mile ago. Oil changes every 3500 to 4000 miles. Front wheel bearings, inner and outer were done due to the last person over tighten them. The hydro fluid for rear suspension was changed last year. Car drives tight. I also put new tie rods on both sides, ball joints are fine and then got an alignment. That was done also over the summer. All in all the car is excellent and will make a great commuter car. I get a steady 26 to 27 mpg going 180 KPH. I could lie like I’ve seen everyone do and say that this car gets over 30 mpg but I know these cars and the max I’ve ever got was 28 with my 84 300d. The only reason I’m going to sale this car is that I’m going to buy a 124 300d 2.5 turbo and having 4 cars is just taking up way to much room. Email me and I will email you my number if you have any question. Like I had said. I drive this car everyday an never has it let me down. I did all the work myself. I was a mechanic for 4 years before becoming a police officer so I’m very handy with a wrench. My hobby are these cars and have been for the past 5 years. Email me at occb@earthlink.net. If I forgot anything I will add it at a later
Date.
Email me for pics, this will be my add in ebay, but I will like to offer it to this forum first. I will trade for a 2.5 turbo 300. Of course I will also give cash with car. I'm looking for around $2000. Car is great, just tired of 123's and want a 124. Also I'm a Detective in NY so if I don't reply right away, I'm sorry in advanced, will get to all as soon as I can. I am off Fri and Sat. and will be home Sunday morning so Happy Turkey day.

PS my cell number is 845-926-7088. My name is Robert.
Also the car is Gray and blue cloth interior.

On the left rear bumpper, it was bent and I fixed it to the best I could. I also put in a reverse light.

Nice ride! I just wish I had the room for another car, myself. I espically love the un-converted speedometer.. While it would be a pain to see how fast you're going (you'd get used to it).. it's such a novelty, which is truely awesome. As for the clock.. it probably just needs new capacitors soldered onto it. I recently had the same problem with mine, and after putting new caps on it, it works like a charm.

I'll buy that zebrano climate control faceplate off ya (and give you my black one), for a *good* price, though.. heh, been looking for one of those.

If the car is still there after a while, I may just buy it.. been wanting a 300TD for ages now.. and this one seems pretty unique. One question though.. do the headlights have the vacuum adjuster on them? I assume they do, since it seems to be a straight-from-Germany car.

Lights

yea the lights are adjustable by a switch above the climate control. It goes up and down. It works fine. In fact when I got the car it would not stop running and I found after traceing the vac leak that it was the lights and I reattached the line and it worked like a charm. I have a few guys who have reached out to me, and I might be doing a trade for a 300d 2.5 turbo. I'll know next week. Thanks for looking. Oh the car has a New York Title. When I insured it last year GEICO kept on asking me for the vin number because it was not showing as a valid vin. I told them that it was an import and the stated that was the reason.

That looks like the same "Insignia" generic Alpine clone I got from Best Buy for $59 for my 300E. Pretty good unit for the money, if you ask me...

How bad is the oil leak, are you sure it is only at the oil filter gasket?? This seems easy to fix and cheap to fix, unless I am mistaken. No other leaks at all??

What part of beautiful NYS in New Windsor in?

Oil leaks

There is an oil leak by the turbo on one of the hoses. And the oil filter housing. That is all I can see. I'm sure it is the oil filter housing and it is a easy fix. I even have the gasket. Just a little lazy. It was going to get done when I changed the engine mounts, but needless to say I had to do something else that day and it never got done. It doesn't drip that much. Just a dime spot every night. Oh and New Windsor is in Orange county right above Cornwall and below Newburgh. Later,
Robert
