FS: 1984 300TD Sedan

Well, it’s a new year and time for a new vehicle game plan. I’ve recently acquired a MB gasser (sorry), and need to make room for it in my 2 car garage. So I need to sell one of my W123 turbo diesels. I purchased it in July 2004 when I returned to Texas. It isn’t perfect, but it is a very dependable and nice looking car. Unfortunately I haven’t had the time to do everything I had intended to with it. The good news is that the PO took good care of car.

It is a 1984 model (i.e. 300D turbo automatic, sedan) and has just turned 248k miles. I have put about 7,500 miles on it; it was (until last week) my wife’s daily driver and has been 100% reliable. It has all the standard NA W123 options (all of them work): vacuum central locking, windows, sunroof, automatic climate control, upgraded Blaupunkt AM/FM/CD radio, leather interior, power antenna, block heater, cruise control, etc.

As you can see in the pictures, it is gold exterior with a tan (palimino) leather interior. It has been a Southern car all of its life, with brief trips to the NE, so no known rust. The paint is beginning to fade and it is starting to show its age. The windows could use some tinting. However, the car’s previous owners (and myself) have primarily garage stored this car. The interior is in reasonable shape, the front passenger’s seat has some leather cracks. The carpet is in nice shape, it is not worn. The dash has 2-3 small cracks. The headliner is clean with no tears. Both sun visors are intact. All gauges work as well as the clock. The climate & Cruise controls work; cold air (R12) and hot heat.

Over the years, the car has had a lot of work done to it by the previous owner (I have about 2-3 inches of maintenance receipts). The tires on it still have about 50% of the tread left. I’m currently using Rotella with a 4-5000 mile change interval (w/ German filters). Current oil usage is about ½ qt. every 2000 miles. I also have a current CarFax report on this car (no issues).

Not much left to do, these are the things that I am aware of that may need attention or replacement:

The exhaust resonator is ‘gone’, so the exhaust note is a bit louder.
The A/C system will need to ‘topped up’ before summer hits – my guess is about half a pound of R12.
Fader switch on radio needs cleaning of contacts, speakers sometimes ‘drop out’ when going over bumps.

That’s about all I can think of at the moment. It is a clean and comfortable car. It runs great. The car consistently gets about 21 (town) to 25 (highway) MPG. Questions/comments are welcome. The car is located in Houston, zip 77042. I am about 60 min. from Bush (IAH) airport if you want to fly in. I am confident in the reliability of this car and wouldn't be afraid to drive it anywhere. $3,000 obo.

A 300TD is a wagon. You have a 300D. Call it a 300Dt or a 300 D Turbo if you really feel the need to tell everyone it's a turbo, but you can't call it a 300TD- the name is taken. Nice car- hope it sells.
