Vehicle Description

This is modified 92 MERCEDES 400E - It can run to 60mph in a hair over 6 seconds and do the 1/4 mile in about 14.8 seconds at over 93 mph. It has 285-290 HP with over 295 ft-lbs of torque (265lb-ft of which is available at 1500 rpm) To the delight of the enthusiast the transmission can be shifted manually. The amazing passing power, ride smoothness, stealth performance, and ever solid feel make this one of the best driving cars of its era.

In 2004 we did the following modifications to the car -just these modifications would cost you more that the starting bid of the car today.

Engine - Perfomance chip - K&N filters - Magflow preformance muffler

Suspension- New 500E H&R racing springs with BIlstein Yellow Sport stuts and shocks - this lowered the car also.

Wheels & Tires - Borbet 15 X 7 5 spoke with Kumo victor tires \

Tires should be replaced - they are old and worn -

We changed out the rear gears from 2.20 to 2.82 -same ratio as the 500E

This made the biggest difference in acceleration times --

We raced this in a class with modified Mustang GT's and did well but could not beat them without new rubber .

The engine is stong with no problems - the transmission is strong with no problems - this is a 4 speed auto with manual shifting - The headlight switch has a short in it which does not allow one rear tail light to work - I have not replaced it yet as I ony drove this car at the race tracks during daytime hours.

The sunroof has a track issue -- small guide i think but a major headache to repair so I just leave it closed -- great brakes - but pads will need replacing soon . Drives very well - was aligned after shock and spring replacement - front neg camber was increased as well at that time. Interior is stock leather - we removed and sold the race seat from the car. Right rear door panel is gone -- i was going to gut the car for a roll cage but never did . Some dash trim is gone -- ignition switch is bad and I have another unit to install - car will start without it fine - Body has dent in drivers door and left door as shown -

Right side front fender was new in 2003 after my daughter made a mistake and hit the gas instead of the brake and launched the car into the side of my house!!! Major reason I turned this into a race car -- I had the spare hood and headlight assembly just sitting in the garage before this happend so they were ready to be put on . Right turn signal still needs replacement -- There are paint problems on the window pillers on the front -- paint is bubbling up and ther is a leak at the drivers pillar -- reason for light switch to short --If you are looking of for a perfect 400E than go elsewhere and pay $6000 +++ i had hoped to make this a GTS NASA GERMAN Touring car but ran out of time and money . I have a Porsche Boxster I have been trying for months to sell on another site --Auto Tra*** with no luck --If it had sold I would keep this car and finish it . It would make a great track car for high speed events or Track days with some new tires etc. Can run in SCCA autocross or ITE road race .
