5spd 123 Coupe on e-bay
I was surprised when I came across this. Until I saw this one, mine was the only five-speed coupe I'd ever actually seen.

I emailed the seller about his contention that "special pistons" were used along with questions about the pedigree of the transmission. -CTH

that looks pretty sweet.
the color is unfamiliar though, was it offered in europe? the painted valve cover looks non standard too. i hate it when they dont show the drivers seat back. i assume it is bad. he states the it has euro lights, well, it looks to be a euro car since with lights bumpers and a stick. although the commment about the electronic speedo sensor makes one wonder if that has been changed. and what are the special pistons? euro in a us car or the other way around. the eruo pistons are about 250ea and the us are a dime a dozen. tom w

Don't seem to be able to find a tachometer in the cluster!

It seems the mechanics have had some fun with the mods. it's a good looking coupe though. I bet it would be a great driver.
Let us know about those special pistons when he replys...

Agreed, on the lack of a tach. The cluster is the same design as the US slush-box version - clearly not from a euro, factory five-speed car. I should have noticed that before I posted the link.

Less W123s than W126s came her through the grey market, because there was less savings.
More '85s came in on the grey market than any other market. MB and the value of the DM killed by 1986 Stick, bumpers and lights sound like a gray market Euro. Not all Dot EPA conversion places dideverything, or maybe this one did and put the lights and bumpers back on the way they are now AFTER. Euro bumpers nicer looking but harder to replace here. I have always liked shifting the W123 sticks but I don't think any US ones had sticks other than the 240 in 1985... The VIN# on it probably tell whether it was a Euro. The stick would be fun to drive. Nice looking wheels on that, color looks pretty too. Most of them I have seen here are lighter colors. Very interesting car.
