'77 240d $500

Well, my reserve unit is getting called up and I've decided to store the 300 and let the 240 go.

The car is white with blue interior, 4 spd manual, with a little under 220k on the clock.

The Good:

It was repainted at some point and the paint looks good. The engine runs well and the transmission works properly. I have partial maintenance records, and the clutch was replaced about 25K miles ago (in 1993 ). The slave cylinder was replaced by me about two months ago. All brake pads have plenty of material left, and the left front brake rotor was recently replaced by me. The car handles surprisingly well for something from the 70's. The car comes with a set of four chromed bundt cakes along with three good steel rims, as well as all the wheel bolts for either style. The original Becker Europa works and sounds good. The (manual) windows and sunroof are all functional.

The Bad:

Windshield is cracked. Speedo is inoperative as of a week ago. Odo is inopperative as of about a month ago. When they were working, both were fast by about 10%. The tires are old and should be replaced. A/C is inoperative. The glow plug system has been rigged to work from a manual switch under the dash. It's the old slow glowplug system, but it works provided you have the patience to let it work for 60 seconds on a chilly morning. While the engine runs great once warmed up, it does blow quite a bit of white smoke when first started. I have not checked compression or valve adjustment. The interior has seen better days. The driver's seat is the worst, and has a big rip in the left side. The other seats lack tears, but the padding needs replacement. Power brakes are inopperative. The car still stops just fine, but you need a strong right leg. Central locking system works occasionally.

The Ugly:

RUST This car seems to have spent quite a bit of time in Iowa and Nebraska in the salt. The back bumper is bubbling up, and the bumper is hanging loose on the left side, mainly due to corrosion. The underbody has been undercoated, but it seems to have been done after considerable corrosion ocurred. In northern Nevada, I would expect to get another five to ten years before the car becomes undriveable (semi-educated guess), but in a wetter climate this is probably a short term beater/parts car.

PM here or call (775) 885-2798 (home evenings and weekends) and ask for Bob.

Update

I looks like I have a buyer, but I won't know for sure until next Thursday.

The agreed buyer has run into some problems and will not be taking the car. It's still up for sale.

Damn, wish it was closer...

Anything that runs and drives is worth $500, fellas! Somebody needs to grab this car!

I found a caretaker for the car while I'm gone. It's no longer for sale.
