1972 280sel 4.5
Hey all -
I'm posting this for my grandfather as he is not computer savvy but is looking to sell his, as listed, 1972 280SEL 4.5 V8. The car has 120k on the odomoter, and has been sitting in a heated garage for over the past 10 years, so no rust. He prepped it for paint years ago and never ended up putting it back together. It has 120k miles, leather interior and the V8 engine. Some of the new parts he has for it are new front fenders, rear quarterpanel and door rubbers. I'm told to also be sure to mention that the bottom of the car is not rotted. The car is not in driveable condition as it is prepped for paint, but will run when put back together. He would put it back himself, but is caught up on maintaining his '82 380SL, and '99 E300TD (as well as my 1993 300D,) and does not have the time. He is a genuine Mercedes enthusiast as many on this forum are, so the car has been maintained perfectly with neccessary oil changes and maintence performed Asking $2500, (brand new fenders alone cost $1800.) Car is located in Salem NH (30 mins north of Boston) Please e-mail at samcarpenito@gmail.com if interested. Thanks for looking!

Sam, rear quarters are weld-on parts. Does the car need them?
Post pictures. That will help the skeptics. -CTH |

The whole situation is a shame. The 4.5s are wonderful cars, but not worth much unless concours condiiton. Dissasembled 4.5s are worth even less, I'm afraid.
Photos would make all the difference in the world to a potential buyer.

Si, senor, pictures would help. Also, an answer to the point raised above RE rear quarter panels. Why the replacement parts? Was it wrecked or rusted?
Thanks. Dee

Hey guys - Thanks for the response.
I just spoke with the owner - the rear quarter was rotted, and another OEM one was purchased and needs to be put on. The car was not in an accident. I can take pictures, but the car is in peices as i said. If anyone has specifics they would like pictures of please feel free bc, although I know my way around my 1993, I don't exactly know much about a '72. I was also asked to mention all the parts are OEM purchased from the Mercedes Benz stealership in Manchester NH. Thanks!
