thinking of selling my 1982 300CD
looking for some input. since I have my 87 back now and the 84 wagon close to being on the road, I don't need the 82 and have been toying with selling it. I'd like to get some info on helping assess value to it. any comments or questions appreciated.

I would think it'll be a hard sell - the downside to personalizing and modifying a car is finding a buyer who would want the same modification done to their own car. Therefore, your pool of potential buyers is smaller.
If you could return the car to factory look and feel, with 177k miles on it and assuming it's in B condition on the exterior, interior, and mechanicals, I'd say $5-6k.

I don't know about $5-6k
Obviously 300CD's are popular nowadays, but ones in good condition are the ones that would be in the $5-6 range. I noticed the rust in the rear and wheel arches. Rust is the biggest devaluer in my book. Wheels look good on that car, though. |

John I have always love your CD. I wouldn't mind taking it, but I'm looking for a W124 E320, 300E, or 300CE currently.
I think maybe around 4000-4500 might be fair? |

I was watching the CDs for a couple of months looking for one for a friend. You could go for the crapshoot E-Bay and might get $2,500 or $7,500. I didn't see one that wasn't nearly perfect sell for above $5k outside of E-Bay though. That said if you found the right buyer who would pay a premium for the non-standard 300CD features, you might get more. My estimate is $4,000 though. I'd love to have it but if I spent even $4k on another car my wife would probably divorce me.

What size wheels, tires? Do they rub?

It will go with its usual 17's I've had on it for the last few years, I just wanted to try out the 18" CLS wheels to see if I could get them to fit. with two people in the back seat, the rears rub on turns.

The average winning bid for the last six CDs sold on ebay is $4075.33
1983 2900 1985 9000 1985 2550 1984 3252 1984 3550 1984 3200 Each of these were represented as rust free and in good to verygood condition and of course there is no way of knowing whether or not the transations were actually completed at those dollar values. I have been monitoring 82-85 CD offerings for the last two-three years and have seen two excellent, flawless survivors with less than 100K miles go for bids @$11,000-12,000. Two verygood '84-85 survivors with 100-130K miles went for around $6500. and One excellent '85 @100K miles bid at $9300. I have seen most in average condition with no rust but needing some normal attention... you know the standard 123 wear issues such as AC/ antennae/switches/vaccuum/window seals bid for 2900-3400 and a couple of the better than average ones bid out at 3600-4400. So you can see the values are pretty broad depending on the overall general condition, recency of repairs, and the regularity of maintenance intervals. Any modifications, however clean or phat may not be seen as a sales feature to a potential buyer and might not directly contribute to the sales value of the car. Please consider that when you are trying to establish a fair market price. Good Luck and motor on! |

It is for this reason that in real estate they use the median to express the "average" real estate price. Simply put, in one neighborhood, if you have three home sales, at $300,000, $350,000, and say $1,000,000, the average would be $550,000, which isn't very representative of the average home. The median would be the middle number, which is $350,000. In your example, the middle sales number, or median, would be $3,200 or $3,252.

You are absolutely on target...that was just a raw sample.
Those outliers such as a car in impeccable condition and the beater on the other end of the value range are the exceptions and would not ordinarily be considered as a comparable sale. |

mechanically speaking the car is great, almost everything is functional, with the exception of the rear defroster. all the usual big money things that plauge the cars, I've already taken care of, i.e. a/c, climate vacuum pods, door locks, suspension bushings, etc

ok, the time has come to sell the coupe. is anyone here interested in it before it goes to ebay? I'm thinking $3500, the rear rust has all been repaired and the rear of the car has been repainted.
Stock headlights, taillights and wheels are in the shed and can be reinstalled at no extra cost The 17" 210 sport wheels are back on it again now and will be sold with the car unless otherwise specified. New Kumho's in the front. Also available at no extra charge, all the standard 617 oil leaks come with it. I gave up on resealing everything awhile ago but I did the turbo drain tube and oil filter housing that stopped some of the big ones. The original air filter housing can be reinstalled if desired as well.
