1979 240D for sale

Beautiful 1979 240D with manual transmission in original condition and 177000 miles on it is looking for a new, caring home. Everything is in working order, even the A/C.

The good:
interior in outstanding condition
mechanically in excellent condition
exterior in good condition

The bad:
needs new brake booster (still works, but has internal vacuum leak)
some minor rust spots around the wheels and underneath the doors

I'm asking $3000 for it. Email me for any questions or additional pictures: 240d@optonline.net

I don't want to put her on ebay...

I really hate the thought to give her to somebody who might not appreciate her beauty. But if nobody from the forum wants her (the price is negotiable), I have to sell her on ebay. Come on guys, she is nice, all she needs is a paint job and she'd be in pristine condition. I'm willing to share the cost of a new brake booster. And if you catch me in a good mood, I might even include the german license plate in front, which is my very own from one of my cars in Germany.

The more information, the better

Basically, the more you can tell in the ad here, the better.

The car sounds great, low miles, and well cared for (but I am on the left coast and personally couldn't)

Close up pictures if possible, where rusty, fenders, jacking points, where?

More pictures from other angles of exterior of car?

Are there books and records, spare, tool kit, first aid kit, condition of tires, when last fluids changed, options, air con ice cold, no accidents, all glass good, was car garaged, block heater, does it shift well, clutch and brakes good, shocks, suspension good, etc.

Precise location, help with prepurchase inspection, shipping, title to the car in hand, current registration?

Just a few things I'd bet forum members would like to know

These are wonderful basic little diesels, and WVO candidates too, so I hope you can interest an enthusiast here in it.

I've seen your posts here and have no doubt as to your integrity, just would like to see you get the car sold quick, and in that spirit I have offered these remarks, good luck to you

Well, unfortunately I'm not a person who can talk a lot without saying anything, that's why I'm not working in sales. But thanks a lot for your advice, here's some more info:

- Rust free around all four jacking points, rust underneath doors is not visible from the outside, I attached pictures from the rust spots on the fenders.
- Owners manual is there, service records are not.
- Spare is in the trunk, as well as tool kit, first aid kit fell apart when I took it out, but it has the original warning triangle, that they stopped putting into newer cars.
- Tires are good for another 10k miles, oil was last changed at 174k and before that every 3000 miles, all other fluids topped off when necessary (rarely).
- This is one of those rare cars with NO options: manual windows, manual moonroof (the one which you really need muscles for to open it, but this also means there is nothing that could break...
- A/C is 'R-134-cold', you figure it out...
- No accidents, however, the lower parts of the right front fender and the right rear door have been repainted by the previous owner (fender bender?). The left front fender as well as the driver's side door have a small dent, the previous owner probably opened the door to far. (It wasn't me...)
- Glass is spotless all around and the car was garaged for the last 26 years
- There is no block heater because it doesn't need one (yet), it starts right up even below 20F.
- Clutch, brakes and suspension are good, no noises of any kind, shocks are a little soft
- The car has a valid NY-State inspection and is currently registered in Lindenhurst, Long Island, NY

Here some more pics, unfortunately I can attach only ten per post. I'd be glad to email the entire album of over 40 pictures to anyone who's interested.

Very tempting. Unfortunately, I can't be spending money on cars right now. Plus, my Euro 300D is treating me well enough (though I wish it was a manual).

Nice car, though.. someone nearby should buy it, and join the "diesel fanclub".

I'm actually looking for a 240 or 300D for cheap (I dont care if the AC works, etc), so I can try my hand at converting to WVO. I just dont want to butcher a pretty car like that one.
