The black 1994 S420 seems like it would be worth considering if you are after one of these cars. Those are the original California 1994 plates on it so it has probably been in Cal. its whole life That particular ebay vendor has been selling used Mercedes for more than 10 years down in the San Jose Calif. area.

I can sell you my 1994 S500 if you are interested. Here is some more information...
Its a 1994 S500 with 130,000 miles. It is Silver over grey leather. The leather still smells like new (the older W140's used more softer leather which retained smell longer). The car has rear-reclining seats,rear-heated seats, original radio, every option.Everything works.Interior is very good, exterior is awesome. It has no scratches or dents.
Looking to get $11,500.
-Let me know,
Nilesh

Sounds nice, it just a little out of my price range. Im trying to stay under 10 grand. I think I probably should of bought that s500 for $5,000 that I showed you guys before. Because I see they sell for around mid 8,000-10,000.

I have a chance to get this s600 (1992) for 10,000 Im really interested and its pretty nice. 1 owner. So if i spend 10 grand I should probably get that (in my opinion)

will, you really should sign a waiver before buying paying $10K for a car that originally cost $130K

Some S600 owner please confirm - isn't the M120 the engine that has 2 $2500 eletronic throttle actuators vs the M119 with a single $750 throttle actuator?

Dont let the prices fool you,if I were you I would pay a grand more and get one with service records.Just because the 600SEL is cheap, doesnt mean its got to be a good car.I would never touch the 1992 600SEL and Mercedes even changed the engine in 1993 for 600's.Im guessing because they were having problems. As I mentioned mine does have service records, ive owned it for about 6 years and serviced it at dealerships.

The guy is the only owner and is said to have all the service records. So if he's telling the truth then he should have all the records.

The car is really clean, and any car im going to buy im taking a chance, (unless i get a waranty which is very rare) so buying from you or someone else doesnt guarentee me anything.

He's the only owner so i would assume he took care of it, since he is a minister and causally drove the car on long trips and thats about it.

So from my standpoint i have a choice of a s600 or a s500 with records.

To me I should go with the most bang for my buck i think. because once something goes wrong on either car its going to be expensive.

Hey I was just re-reading this post, and I guess 92-98/99 are the same body style ( of s classes?) I know i saw a guy on here say after 95 they changed and wernt considered "overenginered cars" anymore. Maybe thats why I assumed the body styles are different??

can anyone confirm that 95 and up s classes lack the quality and everything of the 92-95 s classes?

By the way tomorrow ( saturday) im going to check out a
92 400se with 104,000 miles 3rd owner, with a warranty of enging, trany, and water pump. So I will update you guys if anything happens.

Whatever de-contenting the cars went through over time are well worth the improvement in reliability.

A few features were removed or simplified in later years supposedly to lower production costs and reduce warranty claims. The power memory rearview mirror is among them. The integrity of the AC evaporator and engine wiring harness was greatly improved in later cars. As I understand there is less possibility that a 97-99 will need a new evaporator. The ignition from 96 or 97 does not need $4-500 in ignition system parts every tune-up.

IMO an engine warranty is only beneficial if it covers full replacement of the engine wiring harness. Read the fine print or get those terms in writing. Any mechanical engine failure would have to be caused by severe neglect because the M119 is a very robust engine. That said, you don't want under any circumstance an engine with evidence of sludge under the valve covers. Make sure the PPI inlcudes an inspection of the camshaft and valvetrain oiling tubes. Maybe not so critical in early engines with metal tubes.

Have the owner's manual in your hands and check every feature before paying for the car. Make sure you have plenty of time. There are 3 ways to close the windows! Even that is no guarranty since a faulty closing assist pump can be made to work for a few cycles by resetting the circuit.

will 70724,

I can't understand why you are fixated over an early model 140 sedan, despite all of the words of caution.

All of the early models had terrible, terrible quality. They all have bad engine wiring harnesses that deteriorate over time. I remember Gilly posting a few years ago that when he was a dealer tech, MB to issue large three ring binders to all the techs with all of the issues to correct.

By all means by the newest S class possible, preferably 98-99.

If you are considering a early W140 for less than 10 grand, you should check out later 560SEL's.

what year are the 560sl's? I could of sworn that the only models of s class from the 1992-1995 years were the 320,400,420, 500 and 600? Am I wrong?
