FS: Nice 1997 BMW 740il - $7,995/BRO - I know it's not a Benz...it's close though!

This car has 149K miles on it. Just about every big ticket wear item has just been replaced including both catalytic converters, all 4 oxygen sensors, water pump, thermostat, power steering pressure line, front brakes (pads and rotors) and lots of smaller stuff (ABS speed sensor, SRS sensor, battery and brand new windshield to name just a few). The car has the later M62 V8 engine, not the troublesome M60 which preceded it. Runs and drives very well.

The car is Calypso Red Metallic with light brown (tan) leather interior. No serious dents or dings, just some scratches typical in a 10 year old car and the car is VERY presentable. The cabin is CAVERNOUS and puts the S class to shame with its head and leg room room and luxury appontments. No rust, no rot. $75K+ when new! I'm posting it here first in case anyone is looking for a nice, big luxo-cruiser. We can send some better photos if you email nisnwrench@yahoo.com and if you have any questions or want to see it call Matt (my tech) at 603-321-8976.

The car is fitted with 4 nice Michelin Arctic Alpin snows (75%+ tread) mounted on OEM BMW alloy 5 spoke wheels right now and the original set of OEM "cross hatch" style alloy wheels comes with it as well so you can have winter and summer tires easily changeable.

Asking $7995. Quite reasonable for it considering what's been done in preparing it for sale.

The car is located in Bedford, NH, just outside of Manchester, about an hour from Boston.

Very nice car Marty. If I were in the market I would consider your car.

I love my Artic Alpines on my E320, I am impressed on how long they are lasting. I am on my 8th winter with pleanty of tread left.

From the pics it looks like your E300 need a bath.

Good luck with the auction.

Personally, I wouldn't cross the street for a set of free Arctic Alpins.
I bought a set, ran them one winter, they are extremely squirrely on dry and have a shrill sound, plus they are good on ice, marginal on snow.
I'll take a good set of Nokian hakks any day over these for any road surface.
Oh the Alpins? Gave them away this winter, good riddance.

Terrible idea to list a car on ebay with "best offer " option, you will get only low ball offers, worst case scenario, some idiot will click on buy it now and never contact you...and in the end,you will have no idea how much you can really get for the car.I have done that, belive me,rather list it with a reserve and if it does not get there at least you know how much people are willing to pay, considering the highest bid,and eventually negotiate with the high bidder/s,after auction, because, if they are serious buyers, you will get questions asking for the reserve price, before the auction ends,or,how much more?,after the auction ends.

Actually I've had pretty good luck with the Buy it now/best offer approach on ebay. The listing has generated nearly 800 views and we've had nearly a dozen calls on it with one guy who came to look yesterday and is serious about buying it tomorrrow. By putting a phone number directly in the listing we get lots of interest from people who are local and don't need to make an offer through ebay before seeing it in person. The guy who saw it yesterday would have bought it yesterday but the hood wouldn't open due to a bad bowden cable that we're replacing today.

Besides posting it to ebay it is on bimmerforums, here and craigslist but by far most of the interest has come from the ebay listing. Anyhow, looks like it may be close to being sold, fingers crossed.

As for the arctic alpins, all I can say is my experience has been that tires and cars do react differently to each other. I've had good experiences with these tires on Volvos and BMWs but not so good on MBs. I've also had some terrible experiences with some model Goodyears on Caddys that were fine on my benzes. I don't think you can conclude anything about an entire line of tires based upon your one experience on one model of car. They've sold millions of these tires over the years, and at one time they were the top rated winter tire in consumer reports, so they must have performed well for some users. It's just a matter of finding the right combination of car and tire.

What a beauty. I had a 86 535i and if wasn't into diesel and WVO I'd consider it. I have family in Merrimack.
