mercedes E500(1991-1995)worth it? what's the difference
hello guys,
one of my friends recently mentioned the E500 merc, i've been lookin for a good car, the best in stability and strength and i checked out a lot on this car, the model 1991-93 known as the 500E and the 93-95, with a bit of developments and changes, but at a quite higher price, known as the E500. i wanted to know it the huge difference between the E500 and the 500E worth it, were there a lotta changes does, cuz i just checked out the price and the 93 model was something like 10,000 dollars and the 94 model was like 25000, though there was a milaege difference 82000miles and 60000 miles consequtively. is the car BMW M5 1992-95 better when compared? cuz i know that the E500 is already considered a kind of classic series. and what are the good sites to the used E500, cuz i've been searching quite a lot and there aren't much good deals. ciao... |

Just to clarify, the 500E/E500 special production ended in 94. As you may have noticed the 500E and E500 are extremely similar. Of course, in 94 the E500 changed with the revised looks of all the other E-Classes. When it comes to price it is probably due to import numbers. The 94 E500 had somewhere around less than 400 imorted to the United States. In 92 and 93 quite a few more were imported. These cars have moved from a awesome driver to something of a collectors item. These being built by Mercedes and Porche makes them something special. I would say if you are looking for simply a great car. and not a specialty collector, stick with the 92 or 93 and save yourself some money.
Hope this helps. |

94 E500 also was the year that they offered the E500 Limited model which had the seven spoke wheels like the 190 evo and a couple other small changes, but it was much more than a regular 94 E500 plus there were far less of these every built. The 500E and E500 are both insane cars with great performance, but the M5 of that era would destroy it, just because M5's are sports cars, light more hp and just overalll built for that kind of performance. The E500 and 500E are both very fast but not that fast, plus they are luxury cars, not sports cars. There are lots of cool sites just search google, hope this helps.

Production of the W124.036 ended in April 1995, if I remembered that correctly; rare to find a 95' model, certainly won't find one that was sold in the USA, they weren't.
I wouldn't say the same era M5 would 'destroy' a 500E, they're both darn fast and comparable...depends on whose driving that stick in the M5. The 500E, while, yes, a luxury car, has many times been deemed a 'sports sedan' . The 91-92's are a bit faster than the rest of the cars due to the extra 7 hp...not a big deal...about a tenth of a sec on 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. 25 grand might seem high for a 94' with miles....depends on the person. Realistically, the cars are between 10-20 grand for good examples nowadays and every so often a very low mileage car pops up for big dollars and the 'collectors' lay down the coin for them. One thing that can be said (IMO)...the build quality of the 500E 'destroys' that of the M5. The last real production car to be 'coachbuilt' in vast numbers. 10,479 to be close to exact. Buy one. |
