Oh my GOD!!! It will seriously run on recycled vegetable oil?!?!?!?! That's the only diesel I've ever heard of that would do that. How long will it last? Do you have to do a conversion ? Wow, I'm so amazed!

re last 2 posts, i hear where both of you are comming from. i dont like typing and would much rather someone call and ask away because i can describe the car much better over the phone than i could with my hunt and peck typing.

price was in the ad; best offer. people need to tell me what they think its worth; so i can know if the price i have in my head is realistic or not. as the car sits it has 4 brand new tires ($300), new water pump, filters and oil change ($200 or so) new exhaust ($350), upgraded original cloth interior to nicer m-tex from us spec 123. dealer added air conditioning , dealer added power windows (all power window motors have been rebuilt), i even added a rare and collectible chewbacka action figure which is zip-tied to the hood ornament. i have also added and had professionally installed a grease car WVO kit, which cost $900 + 10 hours of labor to install.

i really like the car and dont really want to sell it, but will post ads on CL to test the market. if the right buyer comes along who is willing to spend what i think its worth, than great. if it doesnt sell it will either a) remain my daily driver/station car or b) get driven to arizona and given to my hippie brother.

like i said i will get some pictures this weekend for everyone to prove that it is a real 5 speed...

typical message board response...this is why i rarely post on message boards.

as i am sure you are aware its no secrect that these engines can run on pretty much anything....i was just commenting on how this car runs for free (nearly). if you like spending $2+ a gallon for diesel than good for you. diesel is up to $2.89 here in NY so i would much rather run WVO/diesel blend (i never run 100% wvo).

like i said i will post some pics over the weekend; mabe Old300D can verify the 5 speed shift pattern as authentic...

Wow a hippie brother in Arizona.......I didn't know they had hippies in Arizona...

LOL just kidding. Southshore if you do post the pictures here- and you are serious about selling the car IMHO I tihink you should go all out & post the firm price that will work for you & any detail you can thnk of.. (make believe you're on the phone with yourself while you're typing..ha ha .)

There are alot of serious buyers here and you may find 1 who will give your old 240 a good home for yrs tocome...

good points here on how to sell one of these. i guess 240D owners are a little more particular than buys for other cars; which is understandable sinces these require proper maintenace and attention to last as long as possible reliabley.

anyways please see the attached pic. as you can it has the euro bumpers, but head lights were changed when imported. i dont havea picture of the shifter, but can post if anyone absolutely has to see it.

for now i think i am going to hold on to it as it is spring and diesels like the warm weather; maybe towards the end of summer you will see a very detailed for sale ad for this car.

anyways thanks all for your interest, comments, thoughts and occasional bits of sarcasm.

If yo could post the vin I appreciate it. I have a manual transmission I pulled out of a junkyard car. I could then check my transmission code #'s against yours and see if mine is a four speed or five. I dont know anyone else with a w123 5 speed, so you are my only hope at this point. Thanks!

Thanks. I've talked with Mike and he seems nice. He's got a rare car and he sits in the drivers seat. Deal with it, folks.

Sarcasm is difficult to convey in writing. This is a pretty sophisticated forum, and most here are more than aware of how vegetable oil is to be used and NOT USED in a Mercedes diesel. My opinion, use the vegetable oil to make biodiesel, a better fuel. As you can see in my signature picture.

to all the nay sayers this is a real 240 D euro 5 speed. i own the car and as my ad clearly states you can call me any time to ask any questions.
this is a true grey market car, purchased by the original owner when on vacation in Italy. i bought it from the mechanic of the original owner.

on top of being an extremely rare car it runs for free on recycled vegetable oil.

i dont have any pictures now but will post over the weekend
come on out and get it.

post a pic and i will tell you if your tranny is a fiver from a 123.

if it is like mine it will have a main trans case of iron which is maybe 12" long then an auxiliary trans bolted to the rear that is maybe 5" long with the fifth grear in it. the front part is identical to a four speed.

to the seller of the 240 euro:
i won't call on an ad with no price listed either. ditto on sketchy info. just a waste of my time and yours. i have owned 29 benzes and about 100 cars in forty years of car hobbying. through the years i have sold and bought a lot of them and it is an aggravation to talk to folks who are expecting something that i don't have for sale.

example: list a benz for sale saying low miles. (it is 20 years old and has 200k on it) so you get a slew of folks who are hoping it is a 20k mile car and i don't have a clue what it is worth and them being a purchasing genius, will be able to get a $15k car for $3k.

so if it has 250k miles on it i just say so in the ad. no sense talking to 30 folks looking for a steal. if they call on a car with 250k miles on it they might actually know enough not to be afraid of it. so i get maybe three or four calls total over a period of a few months and sell it to one of them.

a hundred calls from folks not interested is worthless.

just my $.02.
