Super. Another ad with no pics, a VERY basic description, no real indication of a price, and a "serious calls only" disclaimer. No thanks! Too bad -- that could be a really nice car!

Hi Ernie -- you didn't bother me at all! Not sure why you're apologizing... this might well be a real nice car. I just hate when folks won't disclose relevant info in their ad, then say "serious inquiries only."

My comments were about the ad, not you!

Ok

OK, thanks for the clarification. I have been driving diesels 24 years and was just trying to get a somewhat rare 5 spd. 123 into someone's hands who might just take care of it better than the average consumer. Ernie

No worries, my friend. I am sorry that I offended you -- I certainly didn't mean to! I probably should have just kept my thoughts to nyself; I just get frustrated with ads like this one.

i bet a quarter it is not actually a five speed. good chance it isn't even a euro.

i have called on at least a half dozen 240s over the years advertised as five speeds and when i asked them to go look at the shift knobs they came back and said oh it is a four speed.

thanks for the heads up though.... if true it is a very very rare car!

I've seen the car for sale before. I would say that he's not a "motivated seller", so he's waiting for the right offer to come along. I dropped him an email suggesting that he get us some pictures and be more clear on the car's condition.

He's on Long Island, though not all that close to me I think. -CTH

i want my quarter then...

to all the nay sayers this is a real 240 D euro 5 speed. i own the car and as my ad clearly states you can call me any time to ask any questions.
this is a true grey market car, purchased by the original owner when on vacation in Italy. i bought it from the mechanic of the original owner.

on top of being an extremely rare car it runs for free on recycled vegetable oil.

i dont have any pictures now but will post over the weekend

i post my ads so i dont have to deal with people like you. if someone doesnt have the time or patience to call than they are certainly are not a serious buyer. because this seems like a decent message board i will post some pictures over the weekend when i have extra time.

i know what i have and i am not some idiot trying to sell their grandparents diesel that they inherited. this is the real deal 5 speed.

CL is free -- for Goodness sake, at least let us know if the thing's rusty; it's not like you're paying by the word. As a matter of fact, I am a serious buyer (and looking at the moment), but I passed on your ad because you couldn't be bothered to list much of anything about the car. Was it that much to ask for a handful of details? As a matter of fact, I find that the more details you list, the better the quality of respondent to your ads (esp. on Craigslist). Just my $.02 of course. Good luck selling your car.

i put my phone number in the ad for a reason. if you are seriously interested you can call me at 631-875-5868..just not now b/c i am going to bed. the car is super solid for a North east car. very minimal rust at the very very lower quarter panels, one small spot on the passenger rear door lower corner (from behind the molding) as well as rust at the seams on the passenger floor pan. probabley sounds worse than it is, but you'll never know until you see it in person. when the weather gets warm (and assuming i still have it then) i am going to repair any rust and repaint the car.

I feel I should explain my response to your ad a bit better. I'm not here to make enemies or tick people off, so it's the least I can do after I responded the way I did. There are SCADS of W123 diesels for sale across the country, and by and large, people DON'T know what they have. If I can't see it, or the description is vague, and particularly if no price is listed, I am not going to bother inquiring via email, let alone call. If you could see some of the cars that have been described as having "minimal" or "superficial" rust, I think you'd understand where I'm coming from. I think these folks see what W123's bring on ePray and assume their dogged old 240 or 300 is worth several thousand bucks. I dealt with rust on my 300D, 300TD, and even on my 190E. I would rather find a US-spec W123 with a rust-free body and buy a few goodies (like euro lights) for it while I drive and enjoy it. I just am not a big fan of bodywork, esp. on these cars.

I have found that I can tell alot about a seller by his/her description of a car, so the more I can read, the better I can feel about a potential purchase. As stated above, I should have kept my comments to myself, and I apologize for not doing so in this case. On a serious note, if you can post pics and have a price in mind, perhaps someone here will be interested. If you're looking for high market price, however, I'd try eBay. It's worth a shot, anyway, and that's the best place to get the most $ you can out of it. At any rate, good luck with the sale.

I have to agree with the others here SouthShore240
My experiance has been when advertised without a price, it's because they are asking way more than it is worth.
Call for more details just means they have to Talk you into it or force feed it to you.

I feel that if someone selling cannot be upfront enough to tell me a price, what else are they being evasive about? Just my .02......good luck selling it.
