No kidding... you and me both. Manual windows, even, and dig the climate control!

It's rare alright, but is it worth $11k with over 250,000 km on the clock?

Nice, but I think the price is too high - should be sold at $8,000.

Maybe I'll bid $4K, just so I can say I bid on it!

Hi, you are relatively new here, and you might have missed one:

Check out this one:

For Sale: 1981 300d European 4 Speed

It's being sold by Zack K., (a forum member known as "Boardmonger") in the San Francisco Bay Area, a HIGHLY knowledgeable W123 diesel owner, and it's WELL worth your attention.

This forum has a HUGE number of W123 diesel enthusiasts, and that means that sometimes the very best ones come up for sale here, and are sometimes critiqued very sharply, and bought and sold among members who really love these cars. I have personally met Zack, at the get togethers, know him and like him and would trust him with what he says about his cars.

The only reason it's being sold is to fund his restoration of a W123 AMG 280CE he's working on, and he is a VERY reputable guy, he has helped organize the Mercedesshop W123 diesel Get togethers that have been held the last year in Nor. Cal. (3 so far), and I know for a fact he knows these cars really well.

Several things make this one unique. Principally it's a scarce 300D euro model, with the rare manual transmission, which as you know was NEVER sold new in the USA. This one comes with a known history from Germany, where it didn't stay long enough to suffer from rust inducing winters there, and a fully known history in the USA, where it has been a California car since arriving there. That is important because these cars are susceptible to rust, which isn't much of a concern in Northern California.

This car is a very unusual car not only for its excellent provenance, and its equipment (the euro heater controls are simpler and better for example and the euro headlights are much brighter, have a better beam pattern and look better than the US ones) and the crank windows and manually operated (or
lack of ) sunroof makes these cars more repair free than the US version.

It's priced VERY reasonably, for what you get, and frankly, I'd have bought it myself if I had the room for it and the money to get it.

I haven't talked to Zack for a couple of weeks, but I think it's still available.
It's a VERY good car, in good condition, known history, a really reputable Mercedes diesel owner is selling, and it is a nice color too, an authentic euro W123 diesel MANUAL transmission, much speedier than any 240 or 300 automatic US one.

Again my opinion only, but this one is a real nice one, even if you live across the country in Kansas, shipping door to door should be under $1,000 or fly in and drive home. It would still be worth it for a car like this one. Internet based purchases can be a big gamble, but this car I personally think is a really good one.
