WTB:190e 2.3-16v

I am looking to buy a 86-87 190e 2.3-16v. If anyone around the Florida area has one for sale or knows where I can find one let me know. I am willing to travel out of state but no where farther than the carolinas. Thank you for your time.

Yeah, but Cali is like 2500 miles from where I am located. I got quoted for shipping and shipping is $800. I also looked at flying out and driving it back and its also around $800. I was kind of hoping for something a little close, but thanks for your input.

Hello 16v addict,

I have a 1986 2.3-16, owned the car since 2000. It has undergone a near complete mechanical restoration.

Motor has about 10k miles on it since completion. During rebuilding new factory pistons were sourced (1st oversize) and the head was tweaked by my machinist. The car is fast and holds its own quite well. Supension has been rebuilt and the SLS is operating as it should. Has ATE Powerdisk front rotors. The exhaust is a stainless stright pipe with stock muffler. No cats. Also have the original exhaust system from the car. Has Evo2 wheels (factory originals dating from 1992) with Fuzions on them also with about 10k miles. Clutch, mounts, driveshaft support, bearing, and flex disks done at that time. Very recent rear wheel bearings and subframe mounts.

To much has been done to list here. A/C was working as of last summer, converted to r134a, have not tried it since then. The car is currently tuned for high RPM power. It drives OK under 4k rpm, but sings magnificently from 5500-redline. You could retune it to make it more drivable for daily street use while sacrificing some upper powerband.

It has been on track for a total of two laps at Road Atlanta during last year's Mitty during parade lapping. Our run group had no pace car, so I pushed the car to assess its worth along with everyone else in that run group. Doubt they will make that mistake again! It performed as designed without issue, predictable and powerful. Aside from that, all mileage is street use. I was planning on tracking the car but purchased a more suitable and dedicated racer. Hot idle oil pressure is about 2.8 bar and you have to really push it to get it that low! Oil changed every 6th tank of fuel.

There is no rust on the car, but cosmetically it could use a bit of attention. One split seam on the driver's seat, a few dings and the paint is showing its age. Also the door panel for the driver's door shows the usual splitting by the window. Not a concours example, but a well sorted driver. Sunroof will need a motor to work, but I use it manually.

To keep it short (well not quite at this point) I have over $15k invested in the car, not counting my labor. The labor amounts to hundreds of hours. You can see pictures of the motor rebuild on my website at www.oldworldauto.com under "Work Portfolio." Colors are smoke silver with black leather. It is a US spec car, 5 speed (clutch done with motor), and also sporting Hella european headlamps. Odo shows 183k and was stopped when I got it as the speedo does not function. I drive by tach, anyways, so it was not important enough for me to fix.

I will entertain a serious offer. I have no need to sell the car, but it would be nice to see it get regular use. The car is not listed for sale publicly, but for a fair offer I will sell it. Have clear title in my name. Email me back with questions if you feel this may be the 16v for you.

Wow nice car. This sounds like one I would be extremely interested in. As for the cosmetic "damage" that doesn't really matter as it is a 20 year old car and it is something that I would expect. I am not sure that I can afford a 16v of this calibre because I am unsure what something like this is worth. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me about such a car though. Maybe we can work something out.

Still looking?

I have a 16V that I've owned for ten years; I am third owner. LOTS of money spent on it. The car is mechanically perfect except for an inop cruise control (I don't ever use it). All suspension parts, climate control (now R134 including metal tubes in ALL hoses, gearbox, brakes, and engine (just rebuilt) done.

I don't really need two cars but won't sell this car for less than around $10K. If you are interested I can send lots of pictures. The car is the dark pearl grey and is a 5-speed. I am located outside of San Antonio, Texas.

Most of these that I have seen always seem beat.

I would only buy one after personal inspection and PPI

Yeah Lee I know what you mean. I plan on inspecting it personally. I would never buy a car sight unseen. Atatexan 10K is more than I am willing to spend on a 20+ year old car.

did you find one yet?

I have a friend who has one in Warner Robins, GA. I've driven it and have many pics that I took just in case he needed help selling it.

I plan to list it here for him but I won't have it up for another day or two. I've sold several of my own MB's here but they were diesels. I really prefer dealing with the MBshop crowd than eBay. The 16v is a new animal to me so I don't pretend any expertise on it. I do know it is FUN to drive when you get used to the dog-leg shifter.

I'm not sure yet what he wants for it but it will be under $5k. I do know it has a clean CARFAX.

I'll put up more pics when I have time.

Rick

That's a factory 2.3-16 bodykit. Not aftermarket.
