FS in CT-'87 300SDL

I have no connection with the car, it was parked next to me at the credit union so I jotted a few notes down. I didn't notice a price on the sign though and I was in too much of a hurry to wait for the owner.

'87 300 SDL-240K miles (860)604-9483

The body looked decent, it was raining so I didn't get out and check it out. BUT the passenger side front fender was rotted through about the size of a fist right above the bumper and the driver side wasn't rotted through but it was definitely rusty in the same spot. Seems like a strange spot? (maybe not?) The wheel wells SEEMED rust free-no bubbles that I noticed. And the passenger side turnsignal lens was non-existent. Other than that it appeared decent depending on what's been done to it.

I just checked it out yesterday. He's asking $2800. It has 240K miles. Interior is in good condition. The driver side power seat and window wasn't working. There is an exhaust leak between the turbo, manifold, and cat. I didn't get the chance to test drive but he was honest in telling me that the transmission shifts rough and it needs an alignment. Both front fenders and bumper are rotted. I guess it was hit a long time ago. It looked like an excellent driver. If anyone wants to check it out it's located on route 17 in Portland, CT. Here's the VIN# WDBCB25D6HA282020. It has ABS which I believe is a rare option for these cars. (based on what's available on the net) The jack points are solid.

add to this list all the potential lurking issues and his asking price is about $2K on the high side, imho. a few months ago a new car dealer in jersey was asking $2500 for an 87 SDL w/ mileage in the high 100's and no rust. i should have checked it out but it was kind of far from me.

Rusting fenders on a 126... If I was a gambling man, id bet those are cheap reproductions and that car was in a front end accident.

Yeah, thats what I was about to say.... even my 85' 380SE has ABS, but it was optional in 1985 on the 380SE. However, it was standard on the 500SEL and 500SEC in 1985.

ABS was still optional in '87 on some 201 models (US), standard on others.

given the mileage, the tranny issues, exhaust leak, and rust etc. i can't see it being worth more than a grand
