1993 300D already converted - in NJ
Car is in central New Jersey, 08904.
My navy blue 93 300D has 173k miles, it is in near mint condition with absolutely no rust. The interior is almost like new, clean carpets, springy seats, and has the original radio with tape deck that works perfectly. The turbo kicks in promptly and it drives like its on a rail. Suspension and anti-lock brakes function neatly. I purchased the car last year with 153k miles on it and promptly converted it with a kit from greasel dot com (the custom welded aluminum "veg wedge" tank is now being sold by a company from Atlanta called veg energy). The vegetable oil conversion works flawlessly, and has already saved me alot of money on fuel because a local restaurant is happy to give me their waste vegetable oil for free. The conversion included the addition of a 17 gallon heated auxiliary tank in the trunk for the vegetable oil, and its shape is perfect so I still have access to the spare tire and use of almost the entire trunk. There is a heated racor 690 filter attached to the tank in the trunk, with the 2-micron aquabloc element, which lasts for 10,000 miles on well filtered grease. I also added a flat plate heat exchanger for optimal heating of the veg oil before it enters the IP. Since then, I (and my mechanics at the German Car Shop in Edison NJ) regularly changed all the fluids and filters in the car and recently gave it a new alternator, brakes, belts, and battery. It also has new glow plugs and will start easily on even the coldest of mornings. The AC blows as cold as you could want. All electric and mechanicals work as they should, and it has a huge sunroof that works great too. The only blemishes on the car are a small barely noticeable chip in windshield, hairline crack in wood around the shifter, and a few tiny bug sized chips in the paint, otherwise she is glossy and new. Asking price = 10,500$. Thanks for reading, feel free to contact me at dgreenhouse2003@yahoo.com Also, I have a very neat and efficient vegoil collection/filtering/dewatering/filling station that is cheap and easy to use. It is based on dana's pre-filter files that he sells for $20 online, except that I use two goldenrods in a row to polish, a 12 volt pump, and a kink-free hose. I would consider selling this along with the car if the offer was appropriate. Last edited by dgreenhouse; 04-13-2007 at 12:11 PM. |

Sounds like a nice car, too bad you ruined it with that "conversion."

to anyone who is NOT in the market for a converted car - this thread was not intended for a discussion about whether running on WVO is good or bad, so go start that discussion elsewhere.

Whether good or bad, there are many people (myself included) who would stay away from a car running WVO or other. If I were interested, I'd expect to buy it for substantially less than a diesel-burning car even though it is true that you have an additional investment.
There is a market for the car, and those who appreciate the investment that you've made and will pay more for the car with a quality conversion, but not everyone. Yeah, Matt could have been a little more diplomatic I suppose.
