1977 Mercedes 240D-$500-for parts or Restore

1977 Mercedes 240D-$500-for parts or Restore

Automatic, about 177,000 miles, all the parts are there except a fuel tank and rear axles. I bought this beauty hoping to make her a daily driver, but she was just too tired for my mechanical skills and cash flow. The car ran and drove fine in the fall of 2005 when I acquired it. It started hard, but I was hoping that is was something simple like adjusting the valves or injector pump timing. It wasn't, so I took pulled the engine and that's when I found this project was too rich for my blood. The cylinders are worn, thus causing low compression and hard starting. Read the entire story at '77 240D rotates but won't start.

The engine, transmission, drive shaft and other parts are in the trunk and rear seat, hence the squatting car. I invested in having the injectors professionally rebuilt at K&S Fuel injection for about $180, bought new a new air filter, new brake pads, new brake hardware kits, and brake caliper rebuild kits. I never rebuilt the calipers, but the kits go with the car. The hardware and pads are installed, except for one set of front pads that I pulled for my roadworthy MB. The rear rims will not go with this car, but I will put the original steel wheels and tires back on the car. A local salvage yard is buying cars at $150 a ton, as of 4/2/07, I can tell you where, so you can buy this car pull the freshly rebuilt injectors (less than 100 miles on them), caliper rebuild kits, air cleaner, brake pads, and whatever other parts you want and haul the rest to the yard and probably come out money ahead. Why don't I do this myself you ask? I simply do not have a vehicle to haul it or a car trailer. Maybe you have more machining tools at your disposal to rebuild the diesel engine and make this beauty roadworthy again.

If no one buys this car, I will be parting it out and cutting it apart so I can haul it to the yard. Don't want the whole car; let me know what part you want and how much you want to pay. More pictures available upon request.

Contact me at with a PM or email through the forum.

Thanks,
Glenn

PS. Yes, those are hoodpins, No, they do not make the car go faster. Yes, the hood latch still works.

You know, when it is in the single digits in April, I ask myself why I have to be here also.

What is the status on this car? Did you sell it whole or are you parting out? I will continue my search elsewhere, if it is not available for parts.

Scheduling conflicts persist. I am hoping he will make it this week. Makes me think he isn't so interested.

Indeed. But you know as a result of us cash folks being so inconvenienced I do believe out status should be changed to acceptors of charity

So, shall we assume the person took the whole car?

Parting Out

I gave up on the guy. He never came when we scheduled a time and stopped returning my phone calls. The car is being parted. If you had a request please let me know if you are still interested, how you want to make payment, and where to ship the items. I will try and contact everyone that had made a request, and I already removed the parts that were requested so they will be sent immediately once the payment has cleared. Sorry for the delay.

Anyone else with requests, please let me know.

Thanks,
Glenn
