Rough Price Idea - '87 300E

Thinking of buying for my daughter, an '87 300E, 266,000miles, nothing special but a straight body and good tex interior, what should I offer?

Says he can't go below $900, is this reasonable? Won't start, but turns over fine.

i bought my 88 260e for 1326 on ebay..... i replaced the mirror (25).

I only drive about 600 miles a month... i need to do valve stem seals... my car looks great and runs very well.... cold air is worth its weight in gold...well, maybe silver.

my son drives a 300e ... he is now 19..has had it for 2 years.....great car...

if you can do the repairs, buy it...if not, pass.

Thanks Lee.

I can do the repairs, have two 190D turbos, had a 300TE 4matic but sold it in the mid '90s as it crossed into the 100k mile territory, just not sure how the gas engine would be or what value it still has at 266,000 miles. If it were a diesel I know it'd be worth $2k minimum at that mileage, ... is a gas one?

Unless this 300E has had a whole lot of maintenance over the years, in my experience, this would be an extremely big mistake. Actually at 266K it could be a mistake even if it's been maintained because it is going to be at the second round of replacing the predictable failure items. The first round occurs between 100 and 120K or so.

I have had two different 300E's. One from 100K to 175K, the other, I still have, runs great, but it's retired, from 113K to 242K. There are a lot of quite expensive things that can and will go wrong. If the transmission is original, then it's doubtful.

I would look for a simple car.

What's the saying, "there is nothing more expensive than a cheap MB"
