WANTED W140 V12 Coupe 1993-1999 600SEC S600 CL600
I am looking for one with high miles and reasonable documentation. Will consider cars with mechanical issues if priced accordingly, but prefer a clean car that looks great and all major systems functioning as designed. I want one with high miles for 2 reasons - lower price and major expensive things already replaced Service history is a big plus. This has been my dream car for many years and I am finally ready to take the plunge when the right one comes along. I prefer white or black.
I am in WV and would prefer a car that is a reasonable distance from me so I can view it ahead of time. If I can make the trip in a day, it's fine. PM me please |

When you find it
Contact me and I will help you get a warranty for it.
Trust me, they are awesome cars, but you do NOT want to own one without a decent warranty for at least your first 12 months. Bruce brucem105@comcast.net |

Thanks, but that's not exactly the "low price/high miles" I had in mind. I have seen them sell for around $9000 on Ebay as I describe. (like a '95 with 175K miles for example)

You know that for the V12 series,MB does not allow repairs on most components, just replace parts,MB dealers are not allowed to take certain components apart(for example a bad seat motor, means a new complete seat from MB and the old one send back to Germany, low compression in one cylinder means new engine out of the box,no info on engine tear down),I had a CL600 and they simply do not have the books/software for any complex repair,vs a CL 500 that can be taken apart and put back by a any good indy, newer V12 you get, harder to fix,you will have to find a mechanic that works without any info, just based on experience and gut and expensive parts that are specific for that powertrain.

So, does that mean you might need to find a used donor engine to get the parts for a V12? I'm assuming that would be the case if they don't sanction the repair of the engine as you have stated.

I see quite a few of these cars with over 100K miles, most are in decent shape. Someone is getting paid to take care of them because we all know they break!

Like they say, if you have to worry about this then don't get one. I had my '98 V-12 for 4 years already from 50k miles to now 89k miles and so far zero problems except my darn ADS system. The engine is pretty bullet proof and service only required new spark plugs at $13 each and new filters. The valves are hydraulic self adjusting so no adjustment required unlike a BMW 7 series or Porche that require shims and $5k to even start.
My mechanic says that the MB V-12s are quite bullet proof. Plus none of the sub systems have given me any trouble unlike my 2001 ML430 which was a nightmare. I got rid of that after 105k miles since all kinds of little things that cost a LOT kept going out. $12k in repairs in only 2.5 years on the ML. Anyway. your'e right that mainstream MB mechanics will not touch these since they cannot make money on hours and hours of diagnosis but find a patient mechanic like mine who is honest and not afraid if V-12s and you will have the most smootheset awesome car in town. BTW, my V-12 gets 18 pmg consistently and I drive hwy speed of 75-85 most of the time. I have good mechanics here in Silicone Valley and they say its a matter of simply peeling away the layers to get to the problem. Happy Cruising. |
