Anyone have a cheap reliable Mercedes for sale in Georgia?

Earlier this morning, a teenaged friend of mine lost control of her '91 190e 2.6, her first car, and ended up totalling it (thankfully, she's okay aside from some burn from the airbag).
She doens't have much money and had liability only insurance on the 190e, so she's at a big loss here. So now she needs something cheap but reliable to commute to work/school in...$1500 or less is about all she can afford. Cosmetics don't matter as long as it runs well. Working A/C would be a plus.

She said she doens't HAVE to have a Mercedes, but after seeing the car, I'm thankful she WAS in a Mercedes or else it could have been much worse. So we're trying to stick with Mercedes.

We're only looking in Georgia, maybe extreme eastern SC too.

Reply here or PM me if you, or someone you know of, has something.

Also, we'll probably put the totalled 190e on here for sale as a parts car, watch soon for that.

Hate to say it, but it is probably easier to part the Red Sea than to find a reliable Mercedes for $1,500.

You can find some deals on Craigslist in Atlanta (have purchased a couple of MBs from Craigslist) but I don't know about that $1,500 ceiling.

Good luck.

Yea you're not kidding, but I thought I'd ask anyways. I find em cheap from time to time, heck her really nice 91 190e was $1500 and it was immaccualte

You are not going to find ANYTHING reliable for $1500. Closest you will get to is a japanese car from the 80's or early 90's.

I didn't post this asking opinions on whether or not I could find something, because I can. I know what I'm looking at here... her 91 190e 2.6 was dead reliable, and pretty much every other $1000-$2000 Mercedes I've ever had was too. You just have to look hard, and I thought I would ask the KIND people of this forum if they knew of anyone that had something.

just to give you an idea... i have a reliable 260e, 1988 with 209k miles...

dead reliable with ice cold air.

i am not selling it.... at least not now.... it needs valve stem seals...

but to give you and idea... i wouldn't give it up for less than 2500.

just a statement of fact.... i also don't mind saying that i paid 1325 for it..but have put a lot of elbow grease and some minor fix-ups into it.

1500... that's tough....

i could not have bought my car unless i was a DIYer

I bought my 380SE with 118,000 miles for $800 right here on this forum from a member who took very good care of it. He did the timing chain, guides, etc. and had a long list of other new items like engine mounts, etc. I've done little to it in the year or so of ownership; probably have an additional $300 into it. And I've been using it as a daily driver because it is dead reliable. It's not anything close to a beater either; the paint is shiny and glossy like a 5-year-old car, and the interior is very nice with good clean leather. No joking. Deals are out there, but I have found you usually stumble upon them when you're not looking, and have to be ready to jump on them right then and there.

Wow - tough crowd:eek: Urquattro statement is pretty clear he has a budget of $1500 to buy his lady a replacement MB, pretty simple. I took his query as a compliment to forum members that he would rather look for an inexpensive MB here than from average Joe on the street.

Urquattro 06-07-2007 11:49 AM

Exactly. And I have had a few PM's from fellow members here, with some pretty good sounding leads.

My 92 400E is in Atlanta and is reliable, but I'm only down to asking 3500...

It looks pretty good, but he clearcoat is shot on the horizontal panels, it needs motor mounts and has some sort of leak at the PS Reservoir that needs to be checked out.

I drive it every day. If a teenager lost control of a 190 they might be a danger to themselves in a hoss like the 400E...

Yea, the 400e will be a bit much for her, power wise. I should buy the 400e though lol.. I might email you and see if you still have it if I can sell my land rover.

words "cheap" and "reliable" are a deadly combination when talking about MBs.. :laugh3:

Urquattro 06-07-2007 11:09 PM

Not really. I'm constantly amazed by the people who think you can't get a reliable Mercedes for cheap. It's doable, trust me.

I love your car, let me know when you wanna sell it! I want it! Love the color! By all means post more pics!

I have bought 6 mb's

and i have never paid more than $1500 for any of them. They all were good transportation and in decent condition. Some were in great condition. You can't let fleabay be your guide. Many of the people that buy on there have no idea of really how much they are worth.
