Is $8250 OTD for a 95 E300D a good deal?

Didn't want to hijack another thread and I recently won the auction above. 215,000 miles, 1 owner in SoCAL (70 miles away so I don't need to fly east) and the price includes tax, license etc...OTD (out the door).

I pick it up Friday night...

I'm new to this forum and scrambling to catch up on all the information available so all constructive comments are very much appreciated...

I think it's a tad high for the miles, but condition means more than miles. With older cars like this, it's not so much about what was "a good deal" but what one is willing to pay.

Looks nice Iceman. Time will tell, but it is very clean and presentable.

Hooray for only a "tad" high!

Thanks! Glad to hear you think it's a *just* a "tad" high...I thought so as well but took into consideration the distance (travel time, logistics and the cost associated), the one owner factor and the rating of the dealer selling these types of cars and put my snipe in for $7777. If it has no hidden issues I will have been thrilled to have purchased it for that amount.

(I'm glad your AMG wasn't a diesel and had black interior because I was about to kick myself all over the street for missing it by a week.)

Can you point me to a search term or thread that will yield the most I can learn here about what I need to check on this car immediately?

I have this so far but no idea how to check the first two yet:

- Leaking AC Evaporator (Approximately $3,000, Parts and Labour)
- Defective Engine wiring harness ($1,000 parts and Labour
- Stuck Glow Plugs, requiring removal of the head ($3,000 Parts and Labour)

Search in the Diesel section using "1995"; take a few hours to read through them all.

1) Don't worry about the leaking evaporator until it happens.
2) You can check the wiring harness by looking at the ends where the connectors are - is it deteriorating, or does it look new (new indicates it's been done).
3) When a glow plug fails, then you can worry about #3.
4) Tranny failure before 200k is another common thing.
