The chance of a "horror story" on the vehicle that you own is very small. It's a solid engine with a decent transmission. Provided you maintain the fluid changes on schedule and avoid driving it like it's a Ferrari, it will provide many years of service.

As discussed via PM, it will have various "issues" with it's vacuum and climate control systems, and some electrical maladies, over time. You'll also face the need for some front end work, eventually. None of these items will need attention instantly and you can plan to work on them at your liesure or find a competant independent to help you.........or both.

I once drove over an hour to look at a 51 caddy coupe which was advertised as no rust.

It was parked in a garage. I walked over and stuck my head inside to have a look at the interior and saw my feet through the huge hole in the floor.

Within a less than a minute I was headed home....pissed.

What a liar!

either they are trying to con, a little rust is no big deal, or just dont know where rust pops up in those hard to find spots- ie. trunk "ceiling" of an sd or the bottom of the doors- who looks there except us

I sold my 1984 300SD in exact condition for $6k on eBay last Fall.

I took many detailed pictures and spent a week writing the ad. The car was in perfect condition, so the ad and the pictures had to reflect that as well. The auction included printed repair manuals and plenty of spare filters and parts.

The buyer flew to Chicago from New Jersey and drove it home. He was impressed with the car and was very pleased with his purchase.

It is all in how you present the car. You may be able to get $6k if the right buyer is available and you make them confident. You might get $4k if no one is in the market when you sell.

If you were to list it on ebay I would take shots of the underside doors, rear window sill, and under the car. Most of us in the rest of the country are leary of Michigan cars. No rust in that state can mean many things.

I'd say its a $6k car.

Whatever you do if its really that clean underneath don't drive it in the winter. Nothing ruins a car faster.

Lovey is for sale

The economy has taken another victim.....me.
So my Benz is for sale.
I am not going into long detail here but will revisit a couple of things in earlier posts.
The car has never seen a Michigan winter, dealer records for her first 23 yrs.
For the last four years she has been serviced by our own wHunter.
No Internet deals, you must see and drive her, Sorry but I feel it's important.
The price is $4500 FIRM.
No other offers will be accepted so please do not ask.
If you have questions or would like to check her out please call 313-350-5334.

Thank you Jim

Good seeing you today Jim.
It is a shame that you must sell her...

I wanted to note that you need to add engine bay pictures.

* The car has a new stainless steel exhaust system.
* The Engine oil cooler lines are new.
* 3000 miles on the current valve adjustment.
* The hood pad fell apart in storage, and has not yet been replaced, (easy DIY).
* Very nice aftermarket audio system.

I agree:
You need to see and drive the car to appreciate it.

Don't take this the wrong way...but, if you want to sell a car you might want to not come across as being so inflexible. Your photos are almost 3 years old, and even if they reflect the current condition of the car people will wonder why there are no new photos. It looks like a really nice car, but people will be turned off by your attitude. We all have bad days, but a good salesman always has a smile on his face if he wants to close a deal.

The odds of someone local finding you here are small, so if you're unwilling to consider selling it to someone out of the area then advertising on CL and the local ebay classifieds, which are both free, will yield results.

Still, if you wanted to post it here it probably would make more sense to just start a new thread with new photos, new details and see what happens. Being firm in your price is OK but why would you turn down $4500 from someone just because they happen to live too far away to come and test drive it if they were willing to buy it? I have paid more than that for cars I have bought site-unseen but those were from sellers who went that extra mile to make me feel it was the right move.

He and wife do NOT want to sell the car...
The price is $4500 FIRM = it will not go lower = meet his price in CASH and the car is yours...

Jim,

My name is Kris. My father (Bo) called you last night about your SD. I just wanted to let you know who I was on the forum.

Roy,
I sent you a PM with a few questions about the car as Jim stated you were its mechanic for a few years.

Thanks guys.
