Jeeze Joe - leave the guy alone, he is trying to sell his car. If you don't like the price GTFO.

$6k is pretty low

I honestly sold mine for twice that, granted with many less miles.

Past sales on eBay are relatively good indicators of value. One with 217k sold for $5000

another with 153k ended at $7500 (reserve not met):

This one-owner car was bid up to $6700 (reserve not met) with a BIN of $7,450 and it has 208k:

If his car is very clean, straight, has no accident history, and has good records, it is definitely worth something in the $8s and he'll get it eventually (could take a month or two).

Of course it would help if oil wasn't $100 a barrel right now...

At $6K, cash would have already changed hands, car would be in my garage, and we would not be having this discussion.

I'm in the market, but only for the proper car at a price I can handle. There is a huge amount of trash out there being advertised as "perfect". Do you know of one at $6k in condition as stated above? I'd be a bit more than interested.

My opinion is that people are willing to pay a premium for:

1. very clean late model W124 cars.

2. any clean W124 diesel

This car fulfills both requirements.

I agree with the diesel part of that. As for the gassers, the premium is over their "regular" price, which is much less that that of the Diesel. Gassers are a dime a dozen. We picked up a 95 wagon, just over 100K for less than $5k, was a former starmark car, always dealer serviced. Everything actually worked! COLD air, good cruise, as new condition. When replacing the brakes, I found even the pads were from the dealer. I actually told my wife that if she didn't want to drive it that I would use it as my daily driver. Its tight, fast, and will last at least another 100K (something I had more than minor doubts about on our previous Windstar).

The good ones are out there, it just takes time to find the trio of cndition, color, and price.

GTFO yourself. Why don't you run up to the rust belt and "steal it" for $15K. You could probably re-sell it up in Canton outside the Toyota plant for $20K...... Knock yourself out.

That car would go for $6K tops, in Dallas. With rust? Less......

There's no way it'll sell for $10,500

It's a $6K car in real dollars in Dallas, Texas. I passed on a local car black, one owner '95 with 1/3 less miles for $5,500..........it's still for sale @ $7,500. The MB dealer gave $4K for it on trade-in. The wholesaler immediately called me to turn a quick sale.

These used MB diesels grow on trees around here. There were scads of them sent and sold here in Texas new in the late '70s thru the mid- '90s.......people couldn't get enough of MB diesels in Texas during the '80s oil crisis.

People bust their nuts to buy rusted-out relics up in Yankeeland......What's up with that??

Joe, would you be so kind as to provide contact information for the above? I've traveled to Bismarck, ND for the "right" SL, Houston couldn't be any worse.

"Yankeeland"? Are you still fighting the "War of Northern Aggression"

Will try to find it.

Some scumbag, bottom-feeding aftermarket dealer on Camp Bowie Road in Fort Worth, bought it from Billy, a wholesaler from Grand Praire, that was trying to turn it to me.. Park Place MB, Dallas, Bedford, and Ft. Worth, do not want to sit on these old trade-ins. They turn them in one day to a wholesaler. This particular one had two cosmetic defects, rear bumper, and rear of headliner.......other than that, it was ready to go.

Nope.

Only thing I would fight against UP there is poor selection of used, particularly diesel Benzes up north, and their associated rust.

Just say NO TO RUST!

joe, you got that right! I'll do anything mechanical, but bodywork, done properly, is an art. I've seen a shop butt weld sheet metal together where I couldn't find the seam on the bare metal.

There's an MB dealer in Enid, isn't there? Stop in and visit with the used car manager/appraiser, and tell him what you want in an incoming diesel. He'll price an incoming one to you, then you have to make an almost instant decision literally while on the phone with him. You cannot be flakey when doing one these deals. You must be decisive, and follow through with payment almost immediately. But, you can save thousands of dollars, and hundreds of hours searching on your own. And, get it locally. There's some high-rollers, that have owned and babied their diesels up there for years too! These old diesels show-up at MB dealers all the time. The trick is to pay more than the wholesaler will give them, but you have to move quickly. You have to know the parameters of what you want, and what you will give.

Anyone in the country can do this, but you have to rely on a contact, or the incoming appraiser at the MB dealer to help you. I have a personal friend that is an appraiser at a high-volume MB dealer in Illinois. In a few years, when I want a 2005 or 2006 CDI, this is the go-to guy for me.. I will be looking for a garage kept CDI, with less than 20K -- 30K miles, for instance. I want a creampuff, and am willing to pay the large dollars for one.. What I will never do again, is buy another new MB. --Not in this lifetime, anyway. There is too much value in a low-miles MB diesel, to ever buy new again.
