Possible chance to get a cheap 500E

Just saw this on Ebay, seems to need some work, but may go cheap.

I doubt it. It'll be interesting to watch, though. I'd love to have that car!

No such thing as a cheap MB, much less a 500E

Looks nice but I doubt it will sell for under 10k (which is what I would consider cheap)

I'll bet it goes for more than $14,000 - also not "cheap" for a 500E.

I agree it's not cheap at 14k. But since mine was cracked up a week ago in an accident, I have been checking Ebay and there were several on there which did not sell for the sellers' reserve prices, including one which ended with a high bid around 7k. There was one with only 69k from Arizona, one owner, and the bids didn't get to 20k. I think car buyers may be suffering from the much-heralded credit crunch.

Most except those that sell for a living think that the car they own is a "one of a kind" and will sell for max bucks. You can see this in the "low miles" diesels, the SL's, and the 500e's. I've got a 109 SL that looks great from 10 feet and I've driven up and down the east coast FOUR times- and can't sell it for 7K. Those that sell the cars for big bucks are few and far between because if you are in the know you'll find another one for a third the price- as most of those that sell for living did and then resell them on ebay......

So the real question is how much is it going to cost to straighten out the rear end and shocks etc

Bidding seems to have plateaued at mid 5ks. Probably won't move much until the end of the auction. I wonder what the maintenance/svc records might look like. Anybody do any investigation?

Yep. I've bought several used Benzes and most of the private sellers think that their cars are one-of-a-kind cream puff.

Sometimes they are

Most of the times they are not.

Sometimes they are quite scary.

The 1992 Auto Show at the Javitts Center in New York MB had a Spruce Green 500E on the floor. I was there....and the Dr who owned my car before me also saw the green 500E there and immediately ordered the same one he said.

Not sure what North American show that Almandine Red was at....but that's a great color, for any MB. You'd want to buy one like that...from an enthusiast , with records and def. not off of eBay.
