looking at a '83 300D tomorrow

original owner, all maintenance records. Garaged all it's life. Lot's of miles though - 400k. Talked to the lady at length this evening. She is not asking much for it $1200 to $1500 could probably get it. A/C does not work. They moved and don't have the space for it anymore. I'll post if the BODY and INTERIOR is as good as I am hearing. Will do a cold start and drive around to see what I think about the mechanicals. I talked to the guy that has performed some of the maintenance over the years and he said the engine/tranny is pretty used up. In talking with him he stated that the head has never been off.

Took a look at the car. The best thing about it is that the body is absolute SOLID with NO rust. It will need plenty of TLC. Engine started great cold with no smoke or unusual shaking, noise. Trim around the front doors need a little attention. Power steering reservoir was mt. Transmission shifted ok. Engine compartment was pretty dirty. It does have all service records and it is the original owner. Car would probably make a good daily driver without doing anything to it except for replacing the blowby tube to the air cleaner which is broken. Seat covers looked good for mileage which is actually at 351k. When I started to pull away the lady said to make an offer. I imagine $800 would purchase this car. It is listed in the Macon Paper if anyone is interested. The rear shocks have been replaced and they looked like KYB.
Rear axle boots looked good. Windshield had a crack in it. I did not test the wondows/sunroof. The lady said everything worked except for the a/c.

Here is the ad:

Jim did the drivetrain seem "used up" to you? How did it handle? worn out? Or do you think it would be worth $800? Thanks man.

I did not purchase it. It would be worth between $800 and $1200 to someone that has a place to work with it. When I went to look at it the car did not have a battery in it. I started the car up after it had been sitting for a long time and started right up with no smoke or unusual noise.

The phone number is listed in the ad. Not sure if it has sold yet or not.
