Good luck with the sale, but for that price, it better come with a duffel bag full of cash in the trunk. Wow. |

A mercedes will sell for however much someone is willing to pay for it. I know of a nice 93 that reciently sold for about 24k.
Try posting on www.500ecstasy.com/ with more luck and a crowd that is more appreciateive of a fine example of a E500E. I cant believe everyone came down so hard on him. Hatch and Sons cars routinely go for more than 40K (500Es).

Personally I think the later hood grill is ugly compared to the 92-93

Yes, but that is Hatch and Sons vs. a private party sell.....and they are certainly the exception, not the rule.

I'll give you $20K for it, with PPI to verify condition.
Get in touch if you want to sell this and keep it in the 500E family. |

A 500E in socal on ebay just sold for 7500, but It probably needs a paint job. But for 7500, as a Student, I could almost afford that. 170k miles though. Sometimes I wonder, is it better to buy a E500E for 10k that eventually needs 10k of work, 3k to start with. Or just buy one for 20K with everything all done up nicely.

You could go either way, but I've found that it's a harder car to get rid of (should you need to) if you've done the $10k worth of work; the $20k car will always be desired first by most buyers. From experience, I always gravitate to the $20k perfect one.

As a young man (24), swinging 20k is much more difficult than 10k, and 500-1k of parts once every other month is ok to get it running well again. Plus banks wont loan on a 92-94 car anyway. But yeah, If I had the cash. Id probably lean for a car with low miles where it got to stretch its legs often. So 30k-60k miles range would be what I would look for. With no or one accident, most cars have been in accidnets these days. If the repair was done by a factory authorized place that would be fine. But any car in an accident I wouldnt pay more than 20k (for a 500E that is).

This one is for my brother. He's looking for one seriously (3rd person I've turned on to the 500) and this one looks perfect, except the price. If Bart's was still for sale on 500Ecstasy, it would be sold! Timing is everything... |

Rubber wears, steel flexes and fatigues. It's not the *same* car it was when it rolled off the assembly line with a nearly $90,000 price tag. Don't get me wrong, a fun car for sure but my Porsche cost under $30,000 and is a HELL of a lot more fun to own/drive. I won't even go into the known wiring loom issues with those 500's. To each, their own desires. That why we have so many purchase options in the automotive world. Heaven forbid we have only one... like a Prius.

My dad always said, "A thing is worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for it." Technically, that is true. Every now and then somebody has the foresight to see value somewhere that others don't. The people who can do that nd act on it are the folks who make the big bucks.
