obviously I dont know you or the circumstances but I would never go high on this auction as a bidder not knowing you and with 10 feedback and 2 bad feedback. It would make me hold my high limit less than if you had 100 feedback and 2 bad. but the ad looks ok.....more pictures never hurts

That may be true, but if you look at the feedback, it's all for items purchased, not items sold. That makes a HUGE difference for me as a buyer. It should also be noted that his first negative is from someone with only 23 points and is no longer on ebay. I think that should say a lot about that transaction. By the way, negative feedback can be mutually removed if both parties agree on it. That's something to consider if you'd like to try and get that most recent negative removed. Good luck on that though.

Personally, I have 3 negatives, all from people that bought from me though:

#1 Tried to get his money back after item was shipped by claiming everything was damaged. He refused to let Fedex inspect, so I said no. He filed a claim with Paypal...and lost.
#2 Bought my Tahoe then tried to scam me for $2k back wanting a new paintjob. Yeah, this guy is a true scam artist.
#3 Also tried to scam me for his money back. He claimed he "threw the item away" and couldn't return it. Yeah, another scam artist.

I do have 420 "cool points" though, and a good half of them are for items sold. I've been on ebay since '99 and don't claim to know it all, but I've made many mistakes already...and learned from them.

I'll second the comment about the rust spots. I've seen many an auction where the seller refused to send me pics of rust areas...a definite red flag.

Unsure as to the reason for the "private" bidding. In general, what's to hide? Ebay will not show actual user name above $200 anyway so as to discourage the slimeballs. I typically view a private as a huge red flag, as in you feel the need to hide something. Therefore, what else is hidden? Please don't take as personal.

I have one bad, and it was something I bought that the guy screwed me on, I left bad and he reciprocated then tried to get me to mutually remove. I said no. In a lot of cases I could have had the same thing happen but I chose to try to work it out with the other guy rather then leave bad. I have never had a bad on a sale. my personal opinion is 2 bad in 10 is either really bad luck, but maybe something else and it would make me a little nervous on a high dollar deal. nothing against the original poster, you sound like a great guy, but I just thought maybe you should hear it that some would not trust to a higher level. ebay feedback is really your only resume' and your only guide when dealing on line

I guess I didn't understand what a private listing is about. When I see one I just think of it as the seller is protecting anyone who bids from their identity being apparent to the other bidders.

I still don't see how it is a red flag so an explanation is appreciated. And if I can change it I will.

I really forgot when I wrote the copy that I listed the 79 SD on ebay, That is true. I put it up when I saw they had $1.00 listing fee special. I just put it up with like a 12,000. starting bid...It didn't get any bids so that is why I didn't recall it.

As far as the quality of pictures that is good advice and I agree. I can take some more to post tomorrow morning.........The ones up there were the pics I took real quick just for "youz guys" here on the less descriminating forum listing.

The personal effects in the car I think are my beads on the rear view mirror, and a fresh oil & fuel filter onthe floor of the passenger front seat. But true I did not clean it up prior to pics.

Still don't get it.

I posted to please read my feedback, and explained the comments. The 2 items were a 40. corner light for my sons old MarkVIII that the guy never sent, and when I called him he would curse at me. And Mercedes cup holders where I ordered blue and the guy sent black. He said he would resend blue, and he never did. When I called him a few times he finally told me to paint them.
I leave neg feedback for people because I don't appreciate getting ripped off.
How does that trait discourage someone from buying something from me????

unfortunately my wallet is my limiing factor, I would love to bid on your car and I followed it here in the for sale section too.

i was trying not to sound personal, I saw your feedbacks were nothing I personally would question, but I tend to look at the feedback number before I read the auction and sometimes it will discourage me from reading it so your explaination would go unnoticed. Im sure youll do fine because anyone truly interested will read the entire auction description

How did you get that kind of feedback with

"This a first time I am selling anything on ebay so if anyone has any suggestions I am appreciative."

Not trying to be an arse but the feedback is the first thing I always look at when considering purchasing off of ebay.

Personally, I would have broken up the text and had about three or four paragraphs breaking them down to describing the interior, mechanical, exterior, etc.. If you can go back and change it I would suggest getting rid of the "private" bidder thing.

Good luck with the auction and you should do well with it.

I agree with both you and Eng...feedback score is the first thing I look at too to access the seller.
This is one of the inherent flaws of Ebay.....

Don't feel bad at all...I've sold 3 other cars on ebay before and never had a listing cancelled until yesterday. Apparently I broke a rule by saying "not a 300CD" in my title. The nice part is that if it doesn't sell this time around, you have 90 days to relist it. By doing so you can completely change the auction, and if it sells the 2nd time, you're re-listing fees are refunded!

Just saw your user title. Nice. I learned that phrase from my dad when I was in middle school. I wear that title proudly! My wife just calls me a scavenger.

It is one of the chores I have I actually look forward to. Pumping 5 5 gallon pails with stinky used cooking oil, snuggly fitting the pails into the perfect sized W123 trunk, driving away knowing I have just saved 87.50 I didn't have to pay to foreign oil or Dick Chenney Inc, and hoping I remember to slow down for the speed bumps on the way home.............

I've got a solution for that one...a 55 gal drum, a 4x6 trailer...and a hitch on the back of my 300CD Roadster.

Ebay feedback is a funny thing. My one negative is from when I purchased a camera and got the older model with no serial numbers. Guess what happened when I complained? I was accused of tampering with the serial numbers. I had to leave negative feedback so naturally the theif gave me negative. The system is a guide which is good but has flaws. Even with all of Ebays flaws its a great place and so is Craigslist where you are totally on your own. i would suggest listing your car on craigs. Another way to get listing ideas is to look at some other listings. Those tires and rims make your car look tough, I would play with lighting conditions for the pictures. Hi Resolution (big) pictures help the buyers, video is good to. Just think of what you like when looking. More quality info the better. Best of luck. I loved that red SD you had.

I have sold a couple of cars on fleabay and have always done well. Not that I know all there is to know, but(t).....
1) photos, photos, and more photos. everything, not just a few pretty shots of the car from 20 feey away. closeups, detail, good and bad.
2) detail the car. Make it look as close to showroom as possible. When I sold my 84D I spent 2 full days on just this. If it is not included, get it out of the car. If it is included, get it out of the car. Take a seperate photo of these things.
3)find a nice backdrop that does not include a home you do not own. Take the pics on a sunny day......it helps to show the shine of detailing. I use a nice county park about 1/2 mile from where I live....nothing like a nice tropical backdrop of palm trees and water.
write up a good discription and proof read several times......and let others proof read for you. Give yourself plenty of time before listing. It normally takes me a week to get the listing together on a high dollar item.

jmho.....hope it helps.....good luck
