someone from a dealer lying NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Well that certainly looks like a dealer car to me. So he did his homework like you asked. What does false boy have to say for himself now?

Regarding the w211 and w210 discussion points - I had an '05 CDI and sold it. I thought I'd love going from a 98 E300 to the CDI. Didn't. So, I paid way too much for a 99 E300 last year but I did that because I'm back in the car I love - the W210. So, yep some of these asking prices are way out there but if you want the car bad enough..........

Total B.S. - I IM'd with the dealer this morning who confirmed the car is sitting in their showroom today and is still for sale...at that price it does not surprise me. As I said in my prior response...it makes no sense that anyone would pay that much for that car, I guess the free market does work once in a while.

E300

So far my 98 E3000 is getting 30 + too 32 + mpg and smooth comfy ride...

Id rather drive an old MB or VW Diesel then a tin can like a honda or toyota hybrid...

My e300 154K is a tank. I test drove a MB Blue Tech and a 2005 CRD and they are both high quality cars. There is no comparison to the old 5 cylinder 3.0, 2.5 and 6 cylinder 3.0.

My 98 TD is by far the best and most fuel efficient diesel I have ever owned and would not go back... Dont forget handeling...

Chill Guys-

So in the end the buyer for my customer fell through and we ended up acquiring the vehicle wholesale from the customer. So now we have it for sale. It's not my job to sell it on behalf of my sales team (i am not in sales). Relax guys- That's why I have left the issue alone.

You were also caught in at least 2 lies. Full disclosure up-front would probably work better for you on this forum.

Red face ????

What lies? 99% of you guys are fantastic and share my passion for MB's, but the rest of you are a fire-crotch of negativity that have nothing better to do with your time that snipe at us employees of MB. I don't know whether its because your jealous you cant afford a new one or you want to work for the company yourself but chill the hell out.

With the internet availability of information, no one can possibly make something so stupid up- Just don't comment if you don't know what you are talking about or have nothing decent to say.

For what its worth people who dump 150K or 54K into a car have nothing better to do with there money or are just stupid and car poor or a kid. I dont think any car is worth the money especially if you drop 97K for an S class and have nothing but trouble. Any car with that much on its sticker should be bulet proof and trouble free for 250K miles. IMHO

I Understand

That's fair. I understand. Everyone has their preference. I too prefer pre-owned. I drive a lot of miles and depreciation is just not something I can afford... Although our 1 year leases that we are given as employees are AWESOME, but again- I drive too much.

If you made $500k a year you would look at it differently.

Time has value

While not one of my Benz cars, my lovely daughter blew a light while in Tucson, AZ at college, and totaled the minty 98 Buick Century I bought for her 6 months ago.

Now I have a problem.

I'm 2K+ miles away, Already paid for the upcoming semester, she is now missing work (YMCA lifeguard), and I've got to find another 'puff. At a price point I can afford (which is relative).

My brother is in Tucson, one of his friends is the head mech at a GM dealership (comp PPI), and I'd like to get another car like the wreck, so I can pull a lot of parts off the car before selling it for scrap. Plus it was a decent car, ran well, and stood up well to a broadside hit. And my daughter liked it. Not a Benz, but for an out of state college car I cannot oversee or work on, it's a good alternative.

My brother is a busy guy, makes a hell of a lot more money than I, and I'm using up favors by cycling him and his friend to look at cars. And I've got a short timeframe to pull the trigger, or I start renting a car for my daughter.

Am I willing to pay a premuim for a car that checks out, has a good carfax, low miles, Nice color and option selection, and looks like new? Or am I going to continue spending my brother's time and favors, looking for another than might be a bit better? Hell yes, I'm going to pay the premuim!

I found a 1 owner 99 Century that checked out, looks great, original paint, and now have my fingers crossed that she has learned an expensive lesson.

Now, if I'm looking for a car for me, I'm not in a hurry, and I'll only pull the trigger on a good deal. But it's MY time, and I don't have an immediate need. I can afford to walk away and/or be super picky.

What I'm saying is, in some situations, paying a premuim for the right car can be a resonable thing to do. Time has value.

Perhaps the same situations occurr when premium prices are paid for cartain cars. Also, when you're rich, things cost less!

"Also, when you're rich, things cost less!"

Very true, I work for people like that. They buy houses like we buy cars.

Just a thought on your daughter's situation. Don't they have buses in Tucson? I'm thinking the lesson might really sink in, if she's without a car for awhile.

If only she could take a bus!

Public transportation is limited to certain areas. First you need to get to a route. Then you need to time the arrival of the bus. Then you need to get to the closest point of debarkation and walk to your destination.

Great if it all comes together, which seldom happens.

She's a good kid, works hard, and a week without wheels was purgatory for her. Tough choice, but we emptied her college fund, bought the replacement car, and told her that her last semester was now on her.

Also told her to take a good look at the wrecked car and see what her money bought The new car is still MINE!

She also pays for the insurance, and she is on the hook for the inevitable rate increase. Start saving.....

I'm still saving the 250C for her, though. I'm still a softie.

Jim
