My $.02 worth.

If a person is exploring the idea of selling his Benz and wants members' opinions regarding the car, price, etc. he can post as such and receive commentary to that effect.
If he posts as a genuine, above board, legitimate "For Sale" ad, it is improper to post a negative comment regarding the car. If you have something negative to say about the car, there is a PM feature on the forum that would be much more appropriate and the seller is free to take the advice or not. I don't care how much you know about cars or how you feel about it's modifications, undermining a member's attempt to sell a car is not cool. You are either interested in buying the car or you are not. Very simple.
That being said, I am all for stepping in (a la "Thread of the Year") when a member knows for certain that a car is being misrepresented or in an effort to protect the buying public. The difference here is fact vs. opinion.
Finally, the comment about this being a terrible place to sell a Mercedes is right on the money. If I ever have another one for sale I won't post it here unless I intend to give it away. Now buying on here.....that's a different story. Trouble is, those thoughts are not very harmonious and unless we all practice good manners and a modicum of respectfulness they never will be.

I personally feel as though the kit will never destroy my engine, and have several fellow co-op members who have run vegi-oil for literally hundreds of thousands of miles with no observable decrease in engine life. Meanwhile I have seen newer low-sulfur diesel blends play havoc on various engines. There is no doubt that fuel can have a serious effect on an engines operating life. However there is a lot of evidence to suggest a high quality and properly installed vegi-oil kit will not damage an engine. The car is parked in a heated garage, and has more than adequate heating mechanisms to ensure that the vegi oil is at the proper viscosity so that chemically, and physically it operates in an nearly identical fashion to petro-diesel. I invite you to do some more research about Vegi-oil, its viscosity and volatility vs. temperature curve before you post a single sentence response to a car for sale ad that may have a detrimental outcome to the vehicles sale. Is there a reason why you felt it necessary to make a negative comment on my ad? Do you have a personal ax to grind on this subject that required you to post your comment?

I would appreciate a little courtesy, and also to let potential buyers to do their own research and come to their own conclusions.

Additionally petro-diesel is currently about twice the price of professionally treated and certified WVO. With crude topping 109 a barrel just yesterday this cost disparity is only going to continue to grow, at some point EVEN IF there is some measurable decrease in engine life, you will need to run a cost benefit analysis as to what will wear within an engine, and what the cost of a potential repair would cost versus the fuel cost savings.

I think we can probably agree that this is a very complicated issue, and not easily addressed in a single line. Please feel free to engage in this conversation in a more appropriate forum area.

Thank you.
I agree that the comment made to you was rude, he could have been more tactful the open exchange of opinions and ideas on this site should be easy going unless someone gives out dangerous or unethical info! I`ve been hammered on here for neg. comments I made about my own car and the way I photographed it! How dare that I tell the truth about the way a $45,000 car was built and how much it cost to keep it running and then I had the audasity to put it up for sale, enough said good luck and since this is a capitalist country you can ask as much as you want.

I think it's now water under the bridge. It is hard to sell a car, much less sell it here. I've done it, and it went as smooth as one could ask it to be, due to my and the buyer's conduct and attitude. Really, life comes down to how you conduct yourself. NHdoc gets kudos and respect for his last post. That shows what we should all be made of.

Now theres a man with integrity.

another forum's rules

I have a passion for 67 Pontiac GTO's, owning 3 of them. I enjoy Mercedes just as well. The forum at Performance years has this for their rule http://forums.performanceyears.com/forums/showthread.php?t=533337 It seems to have quieted down the sarcastic remarks and made it more professional. If a car is WAY out of line, there just aren't any replies and it gets shoved out of the way. Bill
