Any interest in a 240D in IL?

I suppose this thread is a feeler, of sorts. I am trying to help find a home for a friend's 240D. It's mechanically excellent, but he has started stripping the interior (long story), so headliner, carpet, door panels, and dash are all in the trunk. Gauge cluster is still in place and working, for what it's worth. I believe mileage is still under 100K, believe it or not, and the car runs very well. There is rust starting at the front jacking points, but the fenders and such are quite nice. The car is white and would make an excellent parts source or could be brought back to life as a daily driver with a little elbow grease on that interior. I am going to get a closer look at it this week, so shoot me a note if you have any questions. I suspect it could be had for around $700.

I'll be checking it out closer before too long. It's an automatic (bummer, I know) and there is NO sunroof I don't think. I'll ask them to drive it over sometime and get some more info on it. If it's in the same shape I recall it being it, it would drive to Chicago with no problems at all.

They'd probably prefer to sell outright... what kind of shape is your 190d in, though? Rusty?

Update: I'll have the car in my possession in the next day or so and will be able to look it over more closely. I can say not that the odometer does NOT work, so the car is certainly over 100K by now. Owners estimate 140K or so. Headliner fabric is GONE, but the cross bar pieces are in the trunk. More later!

That might be something we're interested in if the 300TE we're looking into falls through.....

I have the car at my house now. It's going to be a heck of a project to put it back on the road -- the interior is ALL removed save the seats and the gauge cluster. Much of it appears to be in the trunk, but Lord knows what it would take to get it all back in place. That said, it runs very well. If you have access to good interior parts, this could be made into a good daily driver. Rockers are starting to rust in the usual places, though. I'll try to get some pics taken this week, and I'll also try to get it out for a quick 'round the block drive and leave some feedback since I haven't personally driven this car for a few years now.

Could always coat the interior with that hard rubberized flooring they use in pickups and such....then it'd be one heck of an industrial car.
