FS: '83 MB 240D grease car,4 speed, $2000

4cyl NA diesel, 4 speed manual. ODO shows ~266,000 miles but it's been non-operation since I bought the car (<10,000 miles since then). It's a great running car.

It has a Greasecar 2-tank straight vegetable oil conversion, installed by myself, with a manual switch on the console to control Diesel/SVO/Purge. There is a separate, console mounted fuel gauge for the SVO tank, which sits in the spare tire well. It runs great on diesel or veggie, but smells a lot sweeter on the latter, especially when the fuel comes from your local mexican restaurant! gets mid 20's mileage in town and low 30's on the highway It doesn't burn or leak any oil.

It has manual windows, manual door locks, manual climate control. All the electrical works, with the exception of the power antenna (needs a new motor/antenna). The A/C is ice-cold, but the compressor clutch needs a new bearing (costs ~$20 and can be replaced without opening the system). The heat will melt you. I recently replaced the thermostat, heater valve, and fan shroud.

The interior is nice, tan MB-tex . The body has had a partial re-spray, so it looks pretty clean. Some rust in the right, rear quarter, but nothing serious or structural. A very clean example of a midwest car. The car has been missing the right side mirror since I bought it. And some less-than-favorable person used a screwdriver to open the UNLOCKED glovebox, so it could use a replacement.

Brakes are good, tires are okay (Michelins with a little less than half their tread left). I just installed four new glow plugs. The original Becker AM/FM/Cassette sounds good, but I can't get the cassette function to work.

It drives like the well-mannered German tank that it is. Very tight suspension, well, relatively speaking

Comes with a home grease-filtering/pumping station if you want. Or, I'll lower the price slightly if you don't want the grease kit...

I'm in metro Detroit...send me a PM if you're interested and want to check out the car.

EDIT: I'm selling the car because I have too many in the driveway.

thanks- it's a great car. Both my wife and I love it, but we have too many cars, too many projects.

my wife hated mine, I can understand between selling the MB and parting the audi 200 I am down to just 5 cars and I am selling my diesel van to my brother so that leaves 4!! I did not think it was possible to get that low.

mine hates the QSW...go figure! Yeah, five cars is too many for us...I'd like to get down to three, so this one and the VW bus have to go!

No one interested? pawoSD where did you go? I'm WAY closer than Connecticut!

anyone? If you don't want the veggie kit, I'll remove it and drop the price a little. I've only run about 10,000 miles since the WVO conversion.

Smile 240d

I've been considering trying a greasecar. I've tried the lovecraft kit on my wagon. I don't care for it very much. It seemed to cause more problems than it's worth. I'd like more information on your car. If it is a solid car that can take several hundred miles a week it might be just what I need. Email me at radio@lorettotel.net.
